Wi-Fi certifications grow rapidly

The Wi-Fi Alliance today announced that over 900 Wi-Fi products from 116 companies have received certification since testing began in March 2000. The organization currently performs four independent interoperability certifications including IEEE 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g and Wi-Fi Protected Access in addition to a combination of all of these technologies. Hilton Hotels, Borders and McDonald’s to offer Wi-Fi access

Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Borders Group and McDonald’s are the latest companies to collaborate with Intel to help promote “hot spots” for high-speed wireless Internet access, reports c|net. The hot spots will utilize Wi-Fi technology, also called 802.11b — the standard Apple’s AirPort is based on. Hilton plans to install the access points at nearly 50 of its hotels in major cities in North America within the next 30 days.
