Pioneer Electronics today announced a direct-connect auto adapter to play songs from an iPod through the company’s car stereos. “Through Pioneer’s IP-Bus system, the CD-IB100 is backwards compatible with more than 3 million Pioneer car stereos sold during the past several years. Users will be able to operate their iPods as easily as they would using the stereo unit, by means of the stereo’s front panel controls.

Pioneer Electronics today announced that it is shipping a new slim, external DVD/CD writer. The DVR-SK12D, which measures 138 x 22 x 162mm and weighs just over one pound, supports multiple DVD media formats and plugs into standard FireWire and USB 2.0 ports. The DVR-SK12D carries a suggested retail price of US$349.

Pioneer today announced the DVR-S606, a new multiple format external DVD/CD burner with both FireWire and USB 2.0 interfaces. The DVR-S606 has a “sleek industrial design,” can sit vertically or horizontally, and features the Pioneer DVR-A06 mechanism (the company’s sixth-generation internal recordable drive).

Pioneer has posted firmware updates for the company’s DVD-R/RW drives that correct a problem that occurs when the drives are used with new 4x DVD-R and 2x DVD-RW high-speed discs. The updates are only for after-market Pioneer DVR-A03/DVR-103 or DVR-A04/DVR-104 drives, and the drive must be installed internally. The updates are not for SuperDrives found in the Power Mac G4 and iMac.

Pioneer announced today that many of its DVD-R/RW drives will require a firmware update in order to avoid potential damage to the mechanisms. The problem occurs when the drives are used with new 4x DVD-R and 2x DVD-RW high-speed discs, which were recently approved by the DVD Forum. Pioneer’s drives are used in systems from several companies, including Apple and Sony.
