Following better than expected earnings, shares of Apple (AAPL) rose more than 6 percent in after-hours trading. The company’s shares were trading at US$42.40 as of 5:45 p.m. ET, up from its close of $39.75 in regular session trading.

Shares of Apple rose sharply after the bell Wednesday to US$29 (an increase of more than 9 percent), following healthy financial earnings and sales numbers just released by the company. In regular session trading, Apple fell 29 cents to close at $26.64.

Apple has posted details about the after hours activities that are planned for this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) being held June 28 – July 2 in San Francisco. The WWDC Exhibit Fair opening reception hosted by the Apple Developer Connection willl take place on Monday. The Apple Design Awards ceremony, followed by the “Stump the Experts” game happens on Tuesday. On Wednesday, you will be able to take part in an evening of informal Birds of a Feather community meetings, followed by Movie Night with pizza and popcorn.

Shares of Apple rose to US$20.23 in after-market trading, after the regular session close of $19.87 on Nasdaq, according to Island ECN.
