‘iCloud’ searches could lead to poisoned search results

Security experts are warning Apple fans searching for more news about the firm’s upcoming iCloud service to beware of poisoned search results that could lead them to fake anti-virus web pages, reports “V3” (http://macte.ch/ugMzA).

Trend Micro fraud analyst Paul Pajares said in a post on the Trend Labs Malware blog (http://macte.ch/mKSZb) that his team had uncovered several attempts by cyber criminals to take advantage of the popularity of the search term.

Average US smartphone data usage up 89%

According to Nielsen’s (http://www.nielsen.com) monthly analysis of cellphone bills for 65,000-plus lines, smartphone owners — especially those with iPhones and Android devices — are consuming more data than ever before on a per-user basis. 

This has huge implications for carriers since the proportion of smartphone owners is also increasing dramatically, according to the research group.  (Currently, 37% of all mobile subscribers in the United States have smartphones.)

Could iMessage be a Growl substitute?

iOS 5, when it arrives this fall, will sport iMessages. Could it also be a Growl replacement of sorts?

As described by Apple, iMessage is a new messaging service for iOS 5 users. You’ll purportedly be able to send unlimited text messages via Wi-Fi or 3G from your iOS device to anyone with an iDevice.

iMessage is built into the Messages app, so you can send text, photos, videos, locations and contacts. You can do group messaging. You can track your messages with delivery receipts and optional read receipts, see when someone’s typing and encrypt text messages.
