Apple tried to lure away Google exec

Apple reportedly tried to lure away Google executive Dennis Woodside, who was just named Motorola’s new CEO, according to “Bloomberg BusinessWeek” (http://macte.ch/JL1VP).

Citing two unnamed “people familiar with the matter,” the article says Apple CEO Tim Cook was personally attempting to poach Woodside away from the online search giant to install him as Apple’s head of sales. However, “Google convinced Woodside to stay, in part by promising him greater responsibility at the search company,” the article adds.

FTC appears ready to fine Google for iPhone/iPad security breach

The Federal Trade Commission appears ready to fine Google millions of dollars for hacking around privacy settings on iPhones and iPads. Consumer Watchdog filed a complaint in February with the FTC after Stanford Researcher Jonathan Mayer revealed what the Internet giant was doing.

Sara Forden of “Bloomberg News” today reported the Commission is negotiating with Google about how big the fine will be.  She cited an unidentified source as saying the fine could amount to more than US$10 million.
