Intego has posted VirusBarrier 1.6.1, an update to its anti-virus solution, which resolves a conflict with StuffIt strings. Additionally, the company has posted an updated June virus definitions files, which eradicates the recent AS/Simpsons@mm AppleScript virus.

Palm CEO Carl Yankowski today refuted speculation that the company was in talks regarding a buy out. “No one has approached me and I have no comment consequently,” Yankowski told Reuters. Rumors have abounded that Palm, whose stock is trading around an all-time low of $5, is poised for a takeover. Apple, which previously attempted buying Palm before the company went public, has been one of the companies named as prospective purchaser.

In a new report, Morgan Stanley analyst Gillian Munson notes that consumer demand may be an issue for Apple and expects the company will release a new iMac at Macworld. Apple recently launched a new promotion to help move iMacs that offers six months same-as-cash financing or a free Rio 600 MP3 player.

Insider Software has posted a final version of UpdateAgent X, the Carbonized version of its utility for updating all the applications on your drives. The software scans your drive for applications, the checks the version numbers against its database, presenting users with a list of updates that they can download directly. A one-time use license can be purchased for US$9.95, while a one-year subscription to the service costs $49.95.

Verbatim today began shipping media certified for the newest 24x CD-R drives, which can burn a disc in under three minutes. The high-speed media, which is the first from any company to be certified for that speed, can also be used with 1x-20x CD recorders.
