Major Apple distributor axes jobs, issues warning

Ingram Micro, one of the computer industry’s largest distributors (including Apple), issued an earnings warning saying revenues for the quarter would come in at between US$5.8 and $6.0 billion, or some $200 million short of analyst predictions. The company cited the weakened economy and poor sales for the decline. The warning was somewhat expected following the company’s announcement last week that it would be laying off 1,000 employees.

The Register has published an article that takes a look at operating system usage surveys and how inaccurate they can be. The article specifically references a recent Gartner Group survey that stated only 8.6 percent of servers run Linux, while the author illustrates how this number should hardly be taken at face value. Rewind update expected soon

Power On Software will reportedly post a Rewind 1.2 update later today. The update to the company’s disk utility will add control over the size of the Rewind archive; use of the Finder’s Put Away command to restore items top their correct location; correct handling of Virtual PC volumes; and the ability to restore open files.
