Brother rolls out new laser printer line

Brother today introduced its HL-1400 series of laser printers, consisting of the HL-1440, HL-1450, and HL-1470N, which replaces the HL-1200 line. All three printers deliver print speeds of 15 pages per minute at resolutions up to 1200×600 with USB connectivity. The US$299 HL-1440 features 2MB of memory (expandable to 34MB), supports the optional network adapter, and features a 250-sheet paper cassette.

ArcSoft delivers PhotoStudio X

ArcSoft today announced PhotoStudio for OS X, which it bills as the “first mainstream commercial photo-editing program” for Mac OS X. PhotoSuite allows users to capture and view a variety of image files, add effects, perform editing, and more. It sells for US$99.95.

Napster rehearing request denied

Napster’s bid for a rehearing was rejected today by a federal appeals court. The rehearing was filed following the March 5 injunction against Napster that prevented the service from swapping copyrighted works. “Napster’s next option is to just let it go to a full trial and take its chances there or to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court on the injunction,” commented one analyst. Napster’s usage has fallen nearly 90 percent since the injunction was imposed.
