MacGIMP has begun shipping the MacGIMP CD, which provides a one-click installation procedure for getting the open-source image manipulation program up and running under OS X. The CD is available for US$24.95, although the site is honoring $19.95 pre-orders through today.

In a somewhat curious report, Alyssa Jaffey of IdeaAdvisory says that Apple’s introduction of AppleWorks 6.2 yesterday will not have a significant impact on the company’s bottom line — not particularly surprising given the software’s low price point and the free upgrade for current 6.x owners. Additionally, Jaffey says she wouldn’t be surprised to see Apple miss this quarter’s numbers when it reports earnings on July 17, and furthermore, wouldn’t be surprised to see Apple make further downward revisions to its future outlook.

Pentax has begun shipping the Optio 330, a 3 megapixel camera that it says is the world’s smallest to feature a 3x optical zoom. The camera also features a 2x digital zoom, measures 3.6″x2.3″x1.2″, and weighs just 8.5 ounces. Pricing is not yet available.

LaCie today announced a 24x10x40x FireWire CD-RW, which uses what is currently the world’s fastest mechanism to burn CDs in about three minutes. The drive is also available in a SCSI-3 interface and ships with Toast 5 for £249in the UK.

Apple’s PowerBook G4 promotion that offers new purchasers a free FireWire VST CD-RW drive has been extended to the UK, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Ireland, Spain, Switzerland and Sweden, reports Macworld UK. The promotion was originally launched last month in the US and expires in September.
