Microsoft releases Internet Explorer 6 for Windows

Microsoft has released Internet Explorer 6 for Windows, which will be integrated with Windows XP when the operating system ships in October. Among the features of Internet Explorer 6 is a media bar for playing audio and video content — a feature that was originally included with Internet Explorer 5 for Mac but was then pulled prior to release (and has yet to be added). On the Mac side, Microsoft is expected to include the final version of Internet Explorer 5.1 for Mac OS X when Apple ships the Mac OS X 10.1 update next month.

PowerPC G5 labeled as 8500

Motorolla has officially renamed the PowerPC G5 processor the PowerPC 8500, after originally denoting the processor as the 7500. “It’s a sign that Motorola is turning its sights even further away from the desktop market – represented by the ‘7’ in its chip nomenclature – to the embedded arena – which is essentially what the ‘8’ indicates,” explains The Register article. Targeted clock speed for the chip, which is still in development, has changed to 800MHz to 2GHz+, after being billed simply as “2GHz+” previously.
