As expected on Friday, Handspring today introduced its new Visor Pro and Visor Neo handhelds. The US$299 Visor Pro features a 33MHz Dragonball VZ CPU, 16MB of memory, a 4-bit monochrome screen, and a built-in Lithium Ion battery — essentially the same as the $199 Visor Platinum, but with twice the memory and a rechargeable battery.

Motorola has completed work on the PowerPC 8500, also known as the G5, and is expected to begin volume production of the chip at speeds of up to 1.6GHz in the near future, according to The Register. The article speculates that Apple is targeting a January ship date for systems that feature the new, 64-bit processor.

US stocks are expected to trade lower when markets open on Monday following last week’s terrorist attacks, although a mid-week rally is expected if the Federal Reserve cuts interest rates again, as is anticipated.

Apple’s retail store page indicates that the next Apple Store will open at The Shops of Saddle Creek in Germantown, Tennessee, although no date has been specified. Apple had run into a problem with the shops over its desire to use an illuminated sign, which is prohibited; it’s unclear what the resolution to that conflict has been.
