Apple has launched a new promotion in the UK and Ireland that offers an HP Photosmart 318 2.3 megapixel camera for £1 with the purchase of any CD-RW-equipped iMac. The promotion runs through December 31, as noted by Macworld UK. French-speaking Mac site MacGeneration notes that the digital camera promotion is available in other European countries, including France and Switzerland.

File Buddy 6.1.4 is a high-level file utility for the Macintosh. This latest release offers some minor improvements under the hood and several bug fixes, including a fix to a problem where clicking the Cancel button in the Unattached Aliases window would cause File Buddy to hang if any aliases had been assigned new targets but hadn’t been updated to them and more.

Apple has released a Firmware Update for Power Mac G4 systems. Apple notes that the Power Mac G4 Firmware Update 4.2.8 applies to “Power Mac G4 and Macintosh Server G4 models with AGP graphics running Mac OS 9.1 or later from a local hard disk.

As Apple prepares to enter the digital devices market, Intel has announced that it is exiting the highly competitive business. Intel’s Connected Products Division specialized in digital cameras, digital audio players, and toys. “The business didn’t meet our requirements for long-term growth potential,” an Intel representative explained. On Tuesday, October 23, Apple will announce what it calls a “breakthrough digital device.”
