Freeverse Software has released its new 2D role- playing/adventure game, Atlas: The Gift of Aramai. Starring a diplomat named Jarreck on a mission to eradicate the roots of evil, Atlas features 850 non-player characters (NPCs), 150 unique items, multiple quests, and a vast game world with a story that unfolds as the game progresses. The game sells for US$19.95 and requires only a Power Mac with 10 MB RAM running System 7.5.5 or later.

Apple dealers are expected to begin receiving iPod shipments this week, earlier than anticipated, although dealers are being advised not to sell or deliver the product to customers before the official launch date of November 10. Some dealers contacted by MacMinute confirm receiving limited iPod quantities in the past few days, despite being told by Apple that the wait could be three to four weeks. New orders being placed at the Apple Store are being given a 10 day estimated ship time.

A Palo Alto, California, middle school plans to purchase 45 iBooks for use between 300 students, but has postponed a plan to let parents purchase laptops for their own student. The plan drew criticism from parents who said it would divide students into two groups; those who can afford a laptop and purchase one, and those who can’t.

Sapphire has released Shapes Volume 9, a collection of 400 warped, vector shapes for Adobe Photoshop 6 and Photoshop Elements. The collection is available for £12.99.

MacLine, one of the UK’s premier Mac resellers, has gone into receivership, according to MacUser UK. Additional details are not yet available. Just last month, fellow-reseller MyGate shut its doors.
