Palm today announced it will discontinue its MyPalm portal and delete all customer data on Jan. 10, 2002. After that date, only Palm VII and VIIx customers subscribed to the wireless service will be able to continue to use the service. MyPalm functioned as an online calender capable of synchronizing with Palm’s handhelds. Earlier this month, Palm cut more than a dozen jobs that dealt with the MyPalm site.

CE Software has released a new public beta of QuickMail Pro 3.0, the Carbonized version of its email client that also adds a number of other new features.

Ross Scott Rubin, an analyst at Jupiter Media Metrix, believes that Apple’s iPod serves well as an attraction that will lure customers into its new retail stores, according to statements made in a NewsFactor Network article published today. Rubin suggests that Apple’s retail stores will be a success this holiday season because the company can make sales on either new Macs or iPods, as well as third-party digital cameras, camcorders or other peripherals.

Marathon Computer is now shipping its retractable rackmount for the 15″ Apple Studio Display, according to MacNN. While in use, the display rests in front of the rack, but when not in use, the display is easily slid safely away into its own 2U drawer with two spring-loaded latches to secure it in place.

Epic interactive has announced the release of Earth 2140 Missionpack: The Final Conflict, an expansion pack for its futuristic real-time strategy game for the Mac that adds 80 new single- and 30 new multi-player missions, as well as six new units, two new buildings and a new terrain. The game, which requires the original Earth 2140 and is expected to cost about US$20, will be distributed in North America by Mac-O-Rama.
