Macromedia releases Director 8.5.1, Shockwave Player X coming soon

Macromedia has announced the release of Director Shockwave Studio 8.5.1, a new version of its multimedia authoring application. The update adds new tutorials, anti-aliasing (available in software rendering only on the Mac), playback support for Mac OS X and several bug fixes. The company also announced that it plans to release the free Shockwave Player for Mac OS X later this month.

Gates: Microsoft products must emphasize security

In a 1600-word email sent to employees, Microsoft chairman Bill Gates told employees that security and privacy need to be the at the forefront of the company’s future development projects, according to CNN. “When we face a choice between adding features and resolving security issues, we need to choose security,” Gates said. Microsoft has come under increasing fire as vulnerabilities in its software have aided hackers and crippling viruses have cost corporations billions.
