Apple has upgraded the software bundle that ships pre-installed on new Power Mac G4 systems.

SpectorSoft Corporation today released Spector, an application for Mac OS 8/9 that helps users spy on other users by capturing screen shots at regular intervals and recording all keystrokes. Designed for corporations, educational institutions, and home users, Spector sells for US$69.95.

Halcyon Software has released a beta version of iNET, its Java-based implementation of the Microsoft .NET framework that supports Mac OS X. iNET also includes an IL2JAVA converter, which generates Java class files or Java source code from the Microsoft .NET Intermediate Language (IL). Pricing for iNET licenses has not been set.

While Apple’s new Power Mac G4 systems are “immediately available,” according to the press release, sources with independent dealers and CompUSA tell MacMinute they won’t be getting product until mid-February, as national distributor Ingram Micro is telling dealers they don’t expect new systems until February 12. At the same time, calls to five East Coast Apple Stores reveal a “reasonable number” of new G4 systems will be available at their stores today.

Following a visit to the set of Paramount Pictures’ Enterprise, Trek Nation reports that all of the displays on set are powered by 16 Power Mac G4 Cubes, as noted by MacNN. Additionally, the on-screen diagnostic animations are created using Macromedia Director.
