Wired Weekend kicks off tonight at select Apple stores

Beginning tonight at 18:00, Apple retail stores in CambridgeSide, Tysons Corner, Glendale Galleria and Valley Fair will kick off Wired Weekend, a four-day event sponsored by Wired magazine and Apple. Attendees are encouraged to bring their digital camera and a suitable USB cable to connect to in-store computers and experiment with iPhoto. An iBook will be given away on Thursday night, and digital cameras will be given away throughout the weekend. Discounts on printers and cameras will also be available throughout the weekend.

iPhoto downloads top 1 million

Apple today announced that more than 1 million copies of iPhoto have been downloaded since the free Mac OS X software was released at Macworld Expo San Francisco in early January. Total distribution of iPhoto is even higher, as the software has been bundled with new Mac systems since the Expo. “With more than one million downloads in just two months, iPhoto has almost instantly become one of the most popular digital photo applications of all time,” Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, said in a statement.

Orlando Apple Store opening in October

Apple is among the retailers that will be populating the Mall at Millenia at its opening in Orlando, Florida this October. According to the Orlando Sentinel, as noted by reader Jim Sander, Apple will be among the 150 stores at the 1.2 million-square-foot mall, which will feature such high-class boutiques as Cartier, Burberry, Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus, Tiffany & Co., and Lacoste.
