Mini-review: Go Bat MS 5K is a great compact charger

By Dustin Darnell The US$54.99 GoBat MS 5K from Scosche is a great compact charger. It has a matte finish that does not show fingerprints. The MagSafe works perfectly with a noticeable click as the magnets lock the charger in place on newer iPhones.  If the...

Phantasm CS Publisher is invaluable Illustrator plug-in

By David Creamer

When working in Illustrator, have you ever thought that it would be nice to have Photoshop-type color adjustments? How about adding a few Acrobat prepress features? Well then, Phantasm CS (http://www.astutegraphics.com) is the plug-in for you.

My favorite Apple products of 2010

As 2010 comes to a close, I thought I’d offer some thoughts on my favorite Apple products of the year. And the ones that didn’t “do it” for me. Among my favorites:

° The iPad, of course. It hasn’t replaced my laptop, but it’s a great combination web browser, photo viewer, movie viewer, iPod, ebook reader, email checker, and much more.

MacTVision Technologies recently rolled out MacTVision HD for Mac OS X, an update to their app that allows users to watch over 2,600 free, popular TV, news, sports, and specialty channels on their Mac, instantly, on demand. It’s pretty cool and reasonably priced, but if you’re expecting it to replace your cable or satellite TV, you’ll be disappointed.

Desuade Partigen 2 is powerful particle effects engine

By Marcus Geduld

When I need particles, I reach for Partigen 2. Though it only works inside Flash, I export its animations for After Effects and Premiere Pro projects.

Why am I gaga over Partigen? Because it gives me total control over every facet of particle creation, emission, and lifespan. If I can’t produce the effect I want in the interface, I dig under the hood by writing code in ActionScript, the programming language of Flash.
