Knox for Mac OS X gets ‘leaner and meaner’

Knox for Mac (http://agilewebsolutions.com/knox), an encryption and backup solution for Mac OS X 10.3 and Mac OS 10.4, has been updated to version 2.0.3, which adds full disk encryption for non-boot volumes. According to the folks at Agile Web Solutions, it’s a “leaner, meaner version” with several changes and fixes.

Compartments for Mac OS X gets WarrantyGuard feature

LittleFin Software has updated Compartments (http://www.littlefin.com/compartments.html) for Mac OS X (10.5 and higher), to version 1.2. The new WarrantyGuard feature keeps track of all warranties and their expiration dates.

Compartments allows household items to be entered, searched and sorted by location, type, value or any custom tag. Drag and drop photos and other info can be added to each item listing.

New chips could mean a six-core iMac (but as for Blu-ray…)

Intel plans to launch several new desktop processors in the third quarter of 2010 to replace some previous models, according to “DigiTime” report (http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20100701PD209.html). The chips could conceivably find their way into new quad-core iMacs — or perhaps a high-end, six-core version.

The report says later this month Intel will launch three processors including: the six-core Core i7-970, priced at US$885; quad-core Core i5-760 with core frequencies of 2.8GHz and priced at $205; and quad-core Core i5-870S for small form factor computers and priced at $351.

Immediately after updating to iOS 4, some users may notice that Exchange ActiveSync Mail, Contacts, or Calendars don’t sync, or sync very slowly.
