And if they don’t our advice would be to snap up Apple’s Black Friday offer, which will get you a £40 gift card. The biggest deals on offer right now are on the older models. We’d recommend Argos’s £200 off the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Curry’s £130 off the Apple Watch Series 10. Just keep in mind that in the U.K., Apple cut the Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3 prices by £30 and £50 compared to the previous generation when they were introduced. Apple Watch Series 11: The standard Apple Watch Series 11 starts at the same price as previous watches ($399/£369) and is largely the same as the Series 10. The main upgrade is better battery life (24 hours vs 18 hours), 5G connectivity (on cellular models), and better scratch resistance. We’re spotlighting a deal on the Series 10 for $120 off and recommend grabbing it instead of paying more for the Series 11. Apple Watch Ultra 3: The Apple Watch Ultra 3 ($799/£749) has a slightly larger screen, 5G connectivity, Emergency SOS via satellite, and significantly longer battery life (42 hours vs 36 hours). With prices already dropping by $100, we recommend picking up the newer model if you’re looking for a large, rugged watch. Apple Watch SE 3: Apple updated the Apple Watch SE for the first time in years and gave it several overdue features, including an always-on display, skin temperature sensor, gestures, 5G (on cellular models), a faster chip, and fast charging. With the same $249/£219 starting price, an older SE 2 would need to be around $100 to be worth it. Early Black Friday sales are already pushing the price of the SE 3 under $200 and we think it’s a fantastic option for just about anyone. Black Friday Apple Watch deals: What to avoid Spot bad deals: It’s important to be aware that Black Friday brings bad deals as well as good ones. Retailers don’t want to give you a great deal; they want you to buy their unwanted stock at a high price and will use all sorts of tricks to persuade you to do so. Don’t let them get away with it. Check the real pricing: Always check the current MSRP/RRP for the watch you’re planning to buy (we include these with all of our recommended deals). In the U.K. Apple dropped prices on the new set of Watches when they were introduced, but retailers will conveniently forget to mention this and quote the old price instead. That makes their discount look bigger and the deal more appealing. Some retailers also raise their own prices ahead of Black Friday, then drop them back down and claim a large saving. Price tracker sites like CamelCamelCamel can help you to work out if this has happened. We will also flag it if we see it. Read about the product: It’s worth checking reviews and buying guides (such as ours, linked above) to assess the age and worth of the device. Make sure you’re not being fobbed off with antiquated stock. Also, watch out for deals on the cellular models; these can look like big savings, but in our experience, there is little point in owning a cellular Apple Watch. You might as well pay less and get the standard model. Does Apple discount Apple Watches for Black Friday? Apple doesn’t drop prices for Black Friday. Rather, it gives away gift cards when you buy certain items. For Apple’s Black Friday deal in 2025, it is giving away $50/£40 gift cards with Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch Series 11 purchases made on Apple’s U.S. site or Apple’s U.K. site. The Series 10 wasn’t included in 2024’s sale, so the fact that the Apple Watch 11 is included this year is a nice surprise. Here’s what to look out for: AirPods 4: Apple’s cheapest AirPods weren’t updated in 2025, and we’ve seen prices falling all year. Over Prime Day, they dropped to $89 and early Black Friday sales have already dipped even lower. We don’t know if they’ll get as low as $75, but it’s possible. AirPods 4 with ANC: Apple sells a version of the AirPods 4 with noise cancellation for an extra $50, but we’ve seen them as low as $119. With AirPods 4 ANC getting a larger price drop heading into Black Friday, we could see the ANC model inch closer to $110. AirPods Pro 3: Apple just released the newest AirPods Pro 3 in September alongside the iPhone 17, so we’re not expecting the kind of deep discounts we saw last year with AirPods Pro 2. However, we might see the remaining stock of AirPods Pro 2 drop as low as $150. AirPods Max: Apple’s over-the-ear AirPods Max haven’t been updated in a meaningful way since 2020. They still have an H1 chip, don’t support Apple’s latest AirPods Pro features, and have a very high price tag compared to similar wireless headphones. If you want a pair, we’d recommend waiting until they drop under $400. Does Apple discount AirPods for Black Friday? Black Friday 2025: Top shopping tips We tend to find that the biggest savings are on older models, but be aware that these aren’t always the best value for money. Check the generation of the model that is discounted to make sure you know exactly what you are buying and what it’s really worth. We’ve seen resellers switch to selling refurbished or used when the stock of brand-new models run out, so check that the model discounted isn’t actually a used Mac and therefore not as good a deal as it might look. That’s not to say you should avoid refurb models; you just need to make sure that you aren’t buying something used when you want a new model. Mac deals aren’t limited to Black Friday. iOS 27: Everything we know about the fall 2026 iPhone update
Macworld There may be a lonh roadmap ahead for iOS 26, but Apple is already hard at work on the next major release: iOS 27. We have already started to hear rumors about what the next operating system will have in store for our iPhones when it is released in September of 2026, which we’ve collected here. Of course, plans change, and you should take everything with a grain of salt until Apple formally unveils it at WWDC in June. Here’s what we think we know so far. iOS 27: Performance over features Our most reliable intel about iOS 27 comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who reports that Apple intends to treat iOS 27 similarly to Mac OS X Snow Leopard (version 10.6). After the major overhaul of Mac OS X Leopard (10.5), Apple spent the next year removing cruft, fixing bugs, streamlining, optimizing, and improving performance. There were new features, of course, but not as many relative to a normal OS X release. The result was one of the most popular and well-loved OS X versions of all time. Apparently, iOS 27 is going to follow the same route: there will be some new features, but much time and effort is being spent on cleaning up the code and improving performance. iOS 27: Apple Intelligence While the focus of iOS 27 may be on performance, efficiency, and reliability rather than new features, there is reportedly one major exception: Apple Intelligence. Apple is gearing up to launch the new Siri with iOS 26.4, which is rumored to use a foundation model powered by Google’s Gemini, but run on Apple’s servers with lots of modifications and Apple-specific features. But the company has a lot more work to do to improve Apple Intelligence and build smart AI features throughout its operating systems, and that is said to be a major effort of iOS 27 (and macOS 27, iPadOS 27, and so on). We don’t have much information about what specific AI advancements Apple is working on or how it will be used throughout the OS and Apple’s apps, yet. But Gurman reports iOS 27 will be heavy on new AI features. iOS 27: Folding phone features We’ve heard of the imminent release of a folding iPhone for more than five years now, but it looks it could actually happen in 2026. The iPhone Fold, as some are calling it, is expected to be an ultra-premium device with a sky-high price tag—some rumors say as much as $2,400. Naturally, an iPhone that has a 5.5-inch screen on the outside but then opens to reveal a 7.8-inch display on the inside is going to need some specific iOS changes to make use of it. Not only will the operating system itself need an overhaul to deal with this screen-switching and new aspect ratios, but all of Apple’s built-in apps will need to take advantage of the iPhone Fold’s unique geometry. We haven’t gotten any rumors about how iOS 27 will adapt to the folding phone, and Apple is unlikely to unveil any new features until the phone arrives in September, but we’ll be looking for clues at WWDC. iOS 27: Release date Apple will almost certainly take the wraps off iOS 27 at WWDC, which is held in the first or second week of June. So we’ll hear all about it, and the first developer-only betas will ship on Monday, June 1 or June 8, 2026. Then, after several months of beta updates, the latest version of iOS always arrives in September, typically around the second week. Monday, September 14, is the most likely date, based on past history. iOS 27: Compatibility We don’t yet know which phones will be compatible with iOS 27, but we can make an educated guess based on past releases and what we know of the upcoming features. Apple cut off support for iPhone with the A12 processor with iOS 26, but we don’t foresee any reason to eliminate support for devices with an A13 (which has 4GB of RAM) for iOS 27. That leaves us with a compatibility list that looks very much like that for iOS 26: iPhone 17, 17 Pro / 17 Pro Max (launched in 2025) iPhone Air (launched in 2025) iPhone 16e (launched in 2025) iPhone 16 / 16 Plus and iPhone 16 Pro / 16 Pro Max (launched in 2024) iPhone 15 / 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro / 15 Pro Max (launched in 2023) iPhone 14 / 14 Plus / 14 Pro / 14 Pro Max (launched in 2022) iPhone SE 3 (launched in 2022) iPhone 13 / 13 mini / 13 Pro / 13 Pro Max (launched in 2021) iPhone 12 / 12 mini / 12 Pro / 12 Pro Max (launched in 2020) iPhone SE 2 (launched in 2020) iPhone 11 / 11 Pro / 11 Pro Max (launched in 2019) Based solely on its age, it’s possible that the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro could get dropped from the compatibility list. If so, it would have enjoyed six years of new OS updates, which is on the high end for Apple devices.

Apple Asks Indian Court to Block Antitrust Law Allowing $38 Billion Fine
Apple is challenging a new Indian antitrust law that would let regulators calculate penalties based on global revenue -- a change that could expose the company to a fine of roughly $38 billion in its dispute with Tinder owner Match. The 2022 antitrust case centers on accusations that Apple abused its power by forcing developers to use its in-app purchase system. MacRumors reports: Last year, India passed a law that allows the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to use global turnover when calculating penalties imposed on companies for abusing market dominance. Apple can be fined up to 10 percent, which would result in a penalty of around $38 billion. Apple said that using global turnover would result in a fine that's "manifestly arbitrary, unconstitutional, grossly disproportionate, and unjust." Apple is asking India's Delhi High Court to declare the law illegal, suggesting that penalties should be based on the Indian revenue of the specific unit that violates antitrust law. [...] Apple said in today's filing that the CCI used the new penalty law on November 10 in an unrelated case, fining a company for a violation that happened 10 years ago. Apple said it had "no choice but to bring this constitutional challenge now" to avoid having retrospective penalties applied against it, too. Match has argued that a high fine based on global turnover would discourage companies from repeating antitrust violations. Apple's plea will be heard on December 3. Foundation: Galactic Frontier review: Adaptation of Apple TV show fails in so many ways

This is doubly true for Foundation: Galactic Frontier (FGF). It p;ays off an epic template: Isaac Asimov’s Foundation cycle, one of the most important science fiction sagas of all time. And there’s another big name that flashes up when you start the game: the Apple TV logo. When you see these two giants, you expect something big, epic, perhaps even revolutionary. What you get instead is a classic mobile construction game, like dozens of others, only with a thin coat of Foundation. The game’s first impression is quite impressive. The trailers promise an immersive sci-fi experience, the graphics appear clean at first glance, and the Apple TV branding suggests a certain quality assurance. You are thrown into a world that speaks of the collapse of the empire, psychohistory, and brave traders who must find their way in the chaos. Sectors need to be explored, ships built, and heroes recruited. It all sounds like a real adventure. But after a short time, an unpleasant familiarity sets in. Anyone who has ever played a FunPlus game will immediately recognise the pattern: base building with a timer, collecting resources, fleet management, repetitive quests, and an omnipresent feeling that you always have something to d but only if you are prepared to wait or pay. A thin veneer for a masterpiece The Foundation licence is the game’s biggest lure. You meet familiar characters such as Hari Seldon, and the story tells of the Trader Era, the collapse of the empire, and the Seldon plan. The problem is simple: the psycho-historical theories that make Asimov’s work so unique degenerate into loose accessories here. The dialogue is often generic, the missions are rarely really exciting, and the plot feels as if a standard sci-fi story was taken and a few Foundation names were simply sprinkled on top. It’s not the depth you would expect from this template, but rather a shallow background noise. That’s a shame, because Asimov’s universe offers so much potential for complex storytelling. Instead, the glorious licence serves primarily to attract fans, who then find a routine mobile game. The psycho-historical tension–the real essence of Asimov–is completely missing. Gameplay: Tried, tested, and tedious recipe Mechanically, FGF is a prime example of the strategy-building games that have made FunPlus so successful. In base building, you build your spaceship, store resources, and wait for upgrades. Fleet management works similarly: assemble fleets, assign heroes, pay attention to synergies between the different ship types. There is also the obligatory gacha element, numerous characters to collect and level up, all of which you naturally want to collect. Ultimately, like Sea of Conquest, another title from the studio, only now in space instead of pirate ships. A galactic map invites you to explore, peppered with events, story missions, and PvP zones. The battles are visually appealing, but are often rather automatic, with little direct player influence. Tactical decisions tend to be made in advance through fleet composition. It all works, no question. But it’s also nothing new. Anyone hoping to find a fresh interpretation of strategy or even an innovative realisation of Asimov’s ideas will be disappointed. The game is designed to bind players to daily logins, events, and monetization in the long term, maximizing dependency, not enjoyment. FGF runs very stably on the iPhone, even if some effects can cause minor stutters. The game runs exclusively in portrait format, which is interesting and new and not necessarily annoying on the iPhone. The biggest technical annoyance, however, is the lack of iPad optimization. On an iPad, the app is displayed upright, and there are large margins on the sides. For a game that thrives on overview and strategy, this is a missed opportunity and considerably reduces the fun of playing on Apple’s larger tablets. The UI/UX can feel cluttered in places, with too many pop-ups, icons, and offers flooding the screen. Monetization: The real empire behind it This is where the FunpPus DNA comes into its own. FGF is free-to-play, but the way to really progress or keep up with other players is quickly via the in-app shop. It starts after a few hours: Building lines get long, energy becomes scarce, new heroes or ships can only be obtained with luck–and a lot of grinding–or by spending real money. The game offers countless “packs”, time-limited offers, VIP levels, and aggressive cross-promotions. If you want to survive in PvP battles or excel in events, you often have to dig deep into your pockets. The balance is clearly shifted in favor of the publisher. It’s not pay-to-win in the most blatant sense, but definitely pay-to-progress, where the fun depends heavily on how much you’re willing to invest, or how much patience you have for endless timers. The reality is brutally honest: those who don’t pay will always be a few steps behind those who do. Screenshot Screenshot Screenshot Screenshot One question remains above all: why do we see the Apple TV logo on the game’s start screen? This suggests some kind of quality control or at least a close connection to the Apple brand. The logo implies, “Apple has approved this. This must be good.” It attracts people who love the TV series and gives the game an air of officiality and high quality. But if you take a closer look at the game, the question arises: Why is Apple involved? Why is a company that sees itself as a curator of premium experiences supporting a game that is so exemplary of aggressive free-to-play models? It’s like a three-star restaurant sticking its logo on a microwave lasagne. With Apple Arcade, Apple has created its own subscription model for games that promises exactly the opposite: no ads, no in-app purchases, and premium titles that run on all Apple devices. A narrative, strategic game in the Foundation universe would have been the perfect candidate for Apple Arcade. Just imagine: a game commissioned by a top studio that picks up on Asimov’s complex story, offers a real iPad version, and doesn’t fragment the gaming experience with paywalls or timers. This would have fit perfectly with Apple Arcade’s philosophy and would have been a real reason to book the subscription. Instead, the TV branding is tied to a product that virtually undermines the core values of Apple Arcade. There are, of course, rational explanations for Apple’s approach. A free-to-play game like FGF generates enormous revenues through in-app purchases, which directly benefit FunPlus and Apple (via the App Store share). This is much more lucrative and predictable in the short term than the fixed costs of an arcade title. Licensing is also easier than development. Apple can give the game licence to an experienced publisher like FunPlus and hope that the deal makes money without having to finance a game studio for decades. The game also creates buzz around the Foundation brand and keeps the series in people’s minds. FunPlus is a master in building and monetising live service games, an expertise that Apple does not want to build up itself. From a purely business perspective, this is understandable. From a brand and quality perspective, however, it is a disaster. If the game is perceived as a typical rip-off title–it is, to be honest–this will reflect negatively on Foundation and Apple TV. Apple’s marketing message for Arcade, which clearly positions itself against IAP madness, seems flimsy when simultaneously promoting a prominently branded game that pushes these very mechanics to excess. It’s also a missed opportunity: Apple has the resources, platforms, and technological power to realize a truly outstanding Foundation game. A game that honors the series and explores Asimov’s ideas interactively. Instead, this opportunity is given up for a commercially safe but artistically unambitious solution. The Empire still has a lot to learn Foundation: Galactic Frontier is essentially a well-made mobile game that skilfully hides behind a big name. For fans of Asimov’s work, it is a disappointment; for mobile strategy fans, it is another fun plus option among many. The real problem is Apple’s role. This game ignores Apple’s quality standards. Economically, this may be attractive in the short term, but strategically it is a mistake. It shows that even the biggest tech giants sometimes chase the quick buck and forget what their brand is all about. With Apple, it’s always been the attention to detail, the willingness to take the harder path if it’s the better one. With Foundation: Galactic Frontier, you don’t see much of that. Too bad for Asimov. Too bad for Apple.

Google's AirDrop Support For Pixel 10 Likely Exists Because of EU's Apple Ruling
Last week, Google surprised the tech world when it announced AirDrop support on Pixel 10 devices -- all without Apple's involvement. "While it initially seemed like this was a rogue move made by Google to coerce Apple into another boundary-breaking decision, it might actually be part of the repercussions that also led to USB-C on iPhone and the adoption of RCS," reports 9to5Google. From a report: As reported by Ars Technica, the answer to this week's mysterious Quick Share upgrade lies in the EU's interoperability requirements designed for the DMA. The ruling out of the European Commission pushed Apple to begin supporting interoperable wireless standards beginning with this year's set of OS upgrades, replacing the previous proprietary standard the company used to power its various Continuity features. That forced Apple to add support for the Wi-Fi Alliance's Wi-Fi Aware standard of multi-directional file sharing, at the cost of completely phasing out its previous walled-in protocol.
