What can we expect from today’s Apple’s financial announcements?

Apple will announce its third quarter fiscal results today at 2 pm (Pacific). Here’s what the Sellers Research Firm (that’s me) is predicting.

I expect Apple to report net income of $2.9 billion, up from $1.8 billion during the year-ago quarter.

Apple will have sold 3.52 million Macs, compared to 2.6 million from the same period a year ago.

Apple will have sold 10 million iPhones during the quarter, compared to 5.2 million from the same period a year ago.

Apple will have sold 10.1 million iPods during the quarter, compared to 10.2 for the same period a year ago.

Art Text update for Mac OS X adds built-in vector shape editor

Developer Daniel Holtwiesche has updated Art Text (http://www.ssl-danholt.de/english/24/24/181001/include.html) — a Mac OS X app for creating textual graphics, headings, logos, icons and more — to version 2.3, which introduces a built-in vector shape editor that lets you modify icons, shapes, and text objects, as well as create them from scratch.

The new version also offers iImproved program stability thanks to renewed GPC library that handles polygons. And the program now automatically checks for available updates and downloads if necessary.

Apple releases iTunes 9.2.1

Apple has posted iTunes 9.2.1, which fixes some bugs found in iTunes 9.2. You should note that Apple says the update disables older versions of some incompatible third party plug-ins, but doesn’t say which ones.

iTunes 9.2.1 requires Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later to run. You can update via the Software Updates component of the Mac OS X Preferences app — or from the Apple support web site (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1056?viewlocale=en_us).
