38% of Americans hit (or nearly hit) by cell phone distracted driver

I know you just love talking on your new iPhone 4 (and, nope, no “antennagate” jokes here). But puh-leeze don’t do it while you’re driving.

U.S. drivers say they are seeing first-hand the danger of driving while distracted — or DWD; add a new acronym to your vocabulary. A new public opinion poll conducted by Harris Interactive for Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company shows nearly four out of 10 (38%) drivers say they have been hit or nearly hit by a driver distracted by their cell phone.

CleanApp for Mac OS X revved to version 3.4

Synium Software has released CleanApp 3.4 (http://synium.de/products/cleanapp/index.html), a new version of the uninstaller and system management tool for Mac OS X. Files that have been deleted while using Path Finder are now detected, and you can now search for duplicate files.

CleanApp requires Mac OS X 10.4.11 or 10.5. It’s Universal Binary so runs natively on both PowerPC and Intel Macs.

News Corp. exec: iPad, other tablets great for the news industry

Tablet computers such as the iPad may allow the news industry a “re-set” and to start charging for content after years of giving it away for free, News Corp. chief digital officer Jon Miller said Friday,

He added that it was too early to make any judgements about the experiment of News Corp.’s The Times with a paid website but charging online readers was “an idea whose time has come,” according to an “AFP” report (http://macosg.me/2/l9).
