Civilization III comes to Mac this March

As Civilization III for the Windows hits store shelves this week, Infogrames, parent company of Mac publisher MacSoft, has announced that the Mac version of the highly-anticipated turn-based strategy game is expected to be released for OS 8/9 and Mac OS X in March 2002. Brad Oliver, one of the programmers at Westlake Interactive working on the Civilization III port, indicates that the project is progressing very smoothly.

Rogue Spear expansion pack demo posted

Planet Rainbow Six has released a Mac demo of Black Thorn, the upcoming expansion pack for the anti-terrorist combat game, Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear. The demo requires a full version of Rogue Spear. MacSoft, the Mac publisher of Rogue Spear, has not confirmed whether Black Thorn will be released for the Mac.

Amazon.com embraces Linux, saves money

In one of its many efforts to curtail spending, Amazon.com has spent much of 2001 migrating some of its systems from Windows to Linux. In the most request quarter, Amazon spent US$54 million on technology, down from $71 million during the year-ago period, a drop of nearly 25 percent. The company remains tight-lipped on how exactly it’s using the open-source operating system that lacks licensing fees.
