Amazon.com buys Egghead assets, plans relaunch

Amazon.com today announced that it purchased a number of assets from bankrupt e-tailer Egghead last week, including its URL and brand name, for US$6.1 million, according to c|net. Beginning last Sunday, Amazon began redirecting Egghead.com to its electronics store. Amazon plans to relaunch Egghead.com with a format similar to Amazon.com but offering some unique products and content, similar to the sites Amazon hosts for Target and Borders.

Apple sponsors Macintosh Gaming Area for Macworld

Apple has posted specific information on the Macintosh Gaming Area at Macworld Expo San Francisco 2002, which will be held January 7-11 at the Moscone Center. The area will feature a Mac OS X Game Arcade, complete with a number of current and upcoming games such as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Spider-Man, Giants: Citizen Kabuto, Age of Empires II: Gold Edition, Links Championship Edition and Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn.
