Amazon.com today announced that it purchased a number of assets from bankrupt e-tailer Egghead last week, including its URL and brand name, for US$6.1 million, according to c|net. Beginning last Sunday, Amazon began redirecting Egghead.com to its electronics store. Amazon plans to relaunch Egghead.com with a format similar to Amazon.com but offering some unique products and content, similar to the sites Amazon hosts for Target and Borders. Amazon also disclosed that it intends to abide by the terms of Egghead’s privacy policy and not sell or rent Egghead customer information, which it also acquired in bankruptcy court.
