Spending on movies, TV shows declines when Netflix is available

New research from the IHS research group (www.ihs.com) shows (not surprisingly) that spending on movies, TV shows declines when Netflix is available.

Before Netflix launched its streaming service in the USA in 2007, spending on buying and renting movies and TV series on disc was falling by an average of 1.2% a year. Since 2010, the year in which Netflix access became ubiquitous across the US consumer electronics sector, spending has fallen by an average of 10.3 percent a year.

Smart home system installations nearly doubled last year as millions of early adopters purchased devices that were cloud connected, according to a recently published report by global technology research firm ON World (www.onworld.com).

Cloud platforms combined with consumer-driven wireless sensing and control standards have made this possible.  This growth is coming from multiple channels and increasingly through bundled offerings by IP security, cable/MSO and telecom service providers.
