Foldable iPhone Reportedly Facing Mass Production Issues Apple's first foldable iPhone is running into mass production yield problems at the pre-assembly stage, the leaker known as "Fixed Focus Digital" claims.
In a post today on Weibo, Fixed Focus Digital said Apple's troubles are not related to hinge reliability, as was previously reported, but rather due to surface-mount technology (SMT) during pre-assembly, with production yields failing to ramp up. The leaker framed the situation as somewhat concerning, stopping short of suggesting the fall launch is at risk.
The update arrives days after a separate leaker known as "Instant Digital" reported that the device's hinge was consistently failing to meet Apple's quality control standards under conditions of prolonged, high-frequency opening and closing. Instant Digital described that issue as one that "must be resolved with absolute perfection," though a follow-up post suggested the hinge difficulties were unlikely to affect the expected release window.
DigiTimes reported in April that production was already running roughly one to two months behind schedule, while still maintaining that a fall 2026 launch remained on track, with mass production planned to begin in July. Fixed Focus Digital reported in April that price negotiations with Apple's assembly partner were a potentially disruptive factor.
Whatever the precise nature of the problems, the picture that has emerged across multiple supply chain sources in recent weeks is one of unusual production difficulties. That said, a fall launch does not appear to be at risk; Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported in April that the foldable iPhone remains on track for a September debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models, and that Apple is aiming to put it on sale at roughly the same time or slightly later. Gurman noted at the time, however, that "the release is six months away and production has yet to ramp up" and "the timing isn't final."
The foldable iPhone is expected to feature a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch cover display, the A20 chip and C2 modem, a Touch ID power button instead of Face ID, and two rear cameras, with pricing rumored at around $2,000.Tags: Fixed Focus Digital, Foldable iPhoneThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums
Apple Event 2026: When is the next keynote and what to expect Macworld
Apple rarely confirms event dates far in advance, and there’s no guarantee an event will take place within its usual window. That leaves Apple fans – and anyone considering a new Apple device – wondering when the next Apple event will happen and what might be announced.
Based on Apple’s long-established schedule, recent announcements, and reliable industry rumours, we can make informed estimates about when the next keynote is likely and which products could headline it. Read on for a closer look at all of the events Apple is expected to hold in 2026, and what could launch.
When is Apple’s next event?
The next Apple event is the WWDC keynote, starting at 10am PT on Monday June 8.
Apple’s next major scheduled event will be the keynote presentation that kicks off the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC26). WWDC will run from June 8-12 and the keynote will take place on June 8, 2026.
Apple will broadcast the event live so that fans can watch Apple executives reveal details of the new features and changes coming to macOS, iOS and other operating systems later in 2026. We expect the company to provide an update on its AI strategy. While WWDC is primarily a software-focused event, Apple may also unveil some new hardware products, such as the Mac mini and Mac Studio.
Usually the WWDC Keynote is hosted by Apple CEO Tim Cook, but with Cook shifting to the role of Chairman and current Apple SVP of Hardware Engineering, John Ternus, stepping into the CEO role from September, it is likely we will see more of Ternus at WWDC.

Apple has already held one “event” in 2026, although not in the traditional sense. On March 4, the company invited select media to hands-on “experiences” in multiple locations. In the run-up to that date, Apple also launched several products via press release, including the iPhone 17e, M4 iPad Air, and MacBook Pro M5 Pro and M5 Max, M5 MacBook Air and the MacBook Neo.
The next confirmed event is WWDC, which begins on June 8. This developer-focused conference opens with a keynote where Apple outlines upcoming changes to its operating systems – and occasionally introduces new hardware.
Looking ahead to the fall, Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 at Apple’s usual event in September.
A second, late-fall event in October or November is possible, though less certain and typically focused on Macs or iPads.
Here’s when the 2026 Apple events might take place.Foundry
FAQ
1.
What will Apple announce at the next event?
WWDC is Apple’s big developer event at which it reveals plans for the operating systems that run on Apple hardware.
At WWDC 2026 we expect Apple to unveil details of the iOS 27, iPadOS 27, the new macOS 27, updates to watchOS, tvOS, HomePod software, and an update to Apple’s realityOS.
Apple sometimes announces new hardware at WWDC, usually the high end models targeted at power users, so we could see new Macs. This could include updates for the Mac Studio and Mac mini.
You can about WWDC date, times and everything you need to know in a separate article.
2.
What time does the next Apple event start in U.S., U.K and other global time zones
The next Apple keynotes will start at 10 am PT. That translates to the following times in the countries where most of our readers live:
U.S.: 10 am PDT, 11 am MDT, 12 pm CDT, 1 pm EDT
Canada: as above, plus 2 pm ADT
U.K.: 6 pm BST
Europe: 7 pm CEST, 8 pm EEST
India: 10:30 pm IST
Australia: next day — 1 am AWST, 2:30 am ACST, 3 am AEST
New Zealand: next day — 5 am NZST
The timings are generally the same for all Apple Keynotes, but can be slightly different if Apple holds the event during the period of a couple of weeks when the clocks have changed in the U.S. but not elsewhere (in 2026 the clocks will change in the U.S. on March 8 and November 1, while in the U.K. they change on March 29 and October 25).
Sometimes Apple holds events at different times, for example, in October 2023 the event was held in late afternoon in San Francisco, which meant it was midnight in the U.K.
If Apple doesn’t hold an event and instead just issues a press release that usually happens around 8 am PT, 11 am ET and 4 pm U.K. time.
3.
How long do Apple events usually last?
Apple keynotes usually last between one and two hours and feature CEO Tim Cook along with various other Apple executives – with Apple’s John Ternus, stepping into the CEO role in September 2026, it is likely we will see more of Ternus in future keynotes.
WWDC and the September event tend to be longer keynotes; the spring and late-fall events can be slightly shorter.
The September 2024 event was 1 hour 38 minutes.
4.
How often does Apple hold events?
There can be as many as four Apple events in a year:
Spring Event
WWDC in June
iPhone Event in September
Late Fall Event in October
This event calendar is by no means set in stone, though, with the spring and October events being less regular. Some years, Apple doesn’t hold a spring event at all. In 2025 Apple only held two events preferring instead to announce new products via press release.
5.
Does Apple take part in other events?
Apple doesn’t participate in big industry-wide events such as CES, IFA or E3. Instead Apple invites the press and industry professionals to Apple Park to hear all about its latest products and services. Apple calls these ‘events’ and it streams them live online to millions of viewers.
6.
Does Apple ever announce products without an event?
Apple frequently announces products without a keynote event, often opting for press releases or multi-day announcement windows. In recent years, the company has increasingly reserved its large-scale media events for major flagship launches, such as the primary iPhone lineup in September, while using press releases for iterative updates or “chip bumps” that may not warrant a full hour-long presentation.
7.
How to watch an Apple event
Apple events are typically broadcast across several digital platforms, allowing viewers to tune in from almost any device. While the company previously restricted access to its own hardware or the Safari browser, these barriers have been removed in recent years.
You can access live Apple presentations through the following official channels:
YouTube: This is often considered the easiest way to watch. Apple streams its keynotes live on its official YouTube channel, which can be accessed via any web browser or the YouTube app on smartphones, tablets, and smart TVs .
Apple.com: The company hosts a dedicated “Events” page on its official website. For the best experience on a PC, it is recommended to use Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 or later .
Apple TV App: The stream is available within the Apple TV app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV hardware. Keynotes are usually listed in the app’s lineup a day or two before the event begins .
Apple Podcasts: Apple also showcases its events through the Podcasts app on Apple devices, where you can watch the video presentation
You may also like to tune in to our Live Blog which will provide minute-by-minute text updates and analysis as products are announced.
Following the end of the event, detailed breakdowns will also be available on the Macworld Podcast, which can be found on Spotify, Soundcloud, and Apple Podcasts.

How a dead Galaxy tablet forced this Android user to switch to iPad Macworld
You’ve probably heard that the iPad dominates the tablet market, with some stats putting its share at about 50 percent worldwide, a huge number. Why is that? It could be because iPads are well-made, or that iPadOS benefits from being derived from iOS. It could be how well Apple’s ecosystem works. Those are all reasons, but there’s another major reason: Android tablets suck.
Don’t take the word of this devoted Apple user, though. Take the word of my colleague, Hans-Christian Dirscherl, the managing editor of PCWelt in Germany. Hans recently wrote (in German; English translation available at Tech Advisor) about an experience years ago with an Android-based Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (GT-P7500) that forced him to become a devoted iPad user.
In 2011, Dirscherl bought the Galaxy Tab and was “impressed” enough to take it with him when out and about. But, being a tech-savvy kind of guy, Dirscherl wondered why Android updates weren’t regularly arriving on his tablet. Turns out it wasn’t a problem with the device, but rather that the Android 3.1 OS that was on the tablet received only one minor update during his time with it. That’s all, just one.
If you don’t remember, Android Honeycomb was a big deal for Android tablets back in 2011, which were only just beginning to compete with Apple’s popular iPad. Version 3.1 smoothed a lot of Honeycomb’s rougher edges and made it stable for tablets. But while the first round of Honeycomb tablets, including the Galaxy Tab 10.1, were promised an upgrade path to Android Ice Cream Sandwich, they didn’t begin arriving until August 2012. So it was a long wait.
That was a “disappointment,” Dirscherl says, but it gets way worse. Not long after the one-year warranty expired, the Galaxy Tab stopped working. He tried charging it. Nope. He let it sit for a while and then tried turning it on. Nothing. He attempted a hard reset/reset. “Keine weiteren,” Dirscherl concluded that his Galaxy Tab was dead.
The letdown was enough to push Dirscherl’s “dark side of the Force” to the iPad, and he’s been a satisfied iPad user ever since. He never had any problems with that iPad or its successors, he wrote.
Unfortunately, it took a serious device failure to cause Dirscherl to switch, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the experience of many switchers. But hey, it’s good to hear that things are working out! Let’s hope other disgruntled Android tablet users learn the lesson. In the meantime, Hans-Christian, I’ve got a cool new laptop called MacBook Neo you should check out…

Apple is doomed because Google AI doesn’t know when 2027 is Macworld
Look, the Macalope is sure WWDC will go off fine. He’s not really worried about it. It’s gonna be great.
But let’s just say that, in general, the horny isn’t sure the tech companies are reading this moment right.
At last week’s I/O event, for example, Google somehow managed to say “AI” infinity times. How?! That should be impossible! But somehow they did it. Possibly through the power of AI? Unclear.
Talking about AI at I/O does make sense. It is a developers’ conference, after all (just like WWDC), and AI is a great boon to development. But both of these conferences are also used to announce new features for consumers, not just development tools. Google, for example, announced it was making its search field larger to accommodate longer queries designed for AI. Which is to say queries that are designed to keep you on their search page instead of sending you to those tedious websites. Why would you go to a website–many of which are poorly designed, smelly and possibly immoral–when you can have Google just tell you what it thinks it maybe read on that web site (accuracy not guaranteed, void where prohibited)?
Funny story, as the Macalope was typing this column he saw this post on Bluesky which claims Google’s AI overview says, and he quotes:
…next year is not 2027. Next year is 2028, and 2027 is the year after next.
Buh? The Macalope tested it and it still says that. (Hilariously, it is getting this answer from a Reddit post about a previous Google AI year error. It’s AI errors all the way down.)
Who would not want to use these valuable tools?
More importantly, why would you go to some rando’s website and see an ad impression that Google is making no money from when you can see more ads on Google.com?
It just makes sense.
For Google.
Google, the search company, is now becoming Google, the “I summarized the web for you without paying a single dime to any of these sites, please do not go to the web.” company.
Yes, AI provides a great boon to developers and Apple should absolutely discuss that at WWDC. But maybe it shouldn’t lean into it as hard as Google did. Why? Because, as the Macalope explained last week, most people don’t like and don’t want AI. And, no surprise, it hasn’t gotten any better in the last seven days.
“In desperate times, graduates find hope in humiliating tech CEOs”
Hey, the kids are alright.
Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt is one of the CEOs who found himself on the receiving end of such a boo-valanche. To his credit, when met with the booing he… hang on, let the Macalope put on the ol’ readin’ glasses to see what it says here… uh, it says he stubbornly doubled down.
Huh. Well, that’s one way to go.
“When someone offers you a seat on a rocket ship, you don’t ask which seat. You just get on,” Schmidt told the room of angry graduates. Even if it’s owned by one of the guys destroying the Earth and is headed straight to an off-world labor camp run by killer robots.
In fairness to Schmidt, he was also terrible at reading reality when he ran Google. Here he is back in 2011:
One Android-toting audience member said he was frustrated to see iOS apps beating Android versions to market. But in part because of Ice Cream Sandwich, “my prediction is that six months from now you’ll say the opposite,” Schmidt said.
It is now 15 years since that prediction and it still has not happened.
(Disclosure: the Macalope was not in any way trying to be fair to Schmidt.)
Of course, Apple is going to talk about AI at WWDC and it’s probably going to do it a lot. It did just register a genai subdomain and it is widely expected to show off some of the enhanced Siri it promised two years ago. Although, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, that feature is expected to ship as a beta when it does in iOS 27.
If you’d like to receive regular news and updates to your inbox, sign up for our newsletters, including The Macalope and Apple Breakfast, David Price’s weekly, bite-sized roundup of all the latest Apple news and rumors.Foundry
It would not be the first time a new Siri has been released as a beta. That’s exactly how Siri was first released and it stayed in beta for… wait, did it ever actually get out of beta? Maybe that’s been the problem the whole time. (It did finally come out of beta two years after it launched.)
Here’s the Macalope’s word of warning to Apple, though: in a time when disdain for AI is on the rise and even developers are complaining that AI is rotting their brains, you might want to be careful with your messaging. For starters, don’t turn on the firehose of “AI” references that Google unleashed on I/O attendees and watchers. Also, it seems like it would be a good time to re-emphasize the creative aspects of your platforms, the aspects that people love, that make us human (or part human as the case may be), the aspects that AI seems bent on taking over.
Just maybe do it in a better way than 2024’s “Crush” ad.

Apple built the dream iPhone. Why didn’t anyone buy it? Macworld
The ultra-thin iPhone Air definitely caught everyone’s attention when it was unveiled last September. It’s the thinnest iPhone ever made, and it gave us a clear glimpse into the future of smartphones. When the new iPhones hit shelves on September 19, everyone was talking about the iPhone Air.
Months later, the reality is that very few people seem to have chosen the iPhone Air over its siblings. People who own it sing its praises, it’s one of the few iPhones to get a no-strings discount, and its design has been hailed as one of Apple’s best. So why hasn’t it been as successful as the other models?
Perception vs perspective
There’s no denying that the iPhone Air is a truly impressive device. Although my daily driver is an iPhone 17 Pro Max, I’ve had the chance to spend some time with the iPhone Air on a few occasions (most recently at an Apple event), and every time I hold it in my hands, I’m amazed by how thin and light it is.
We’re talking about a phone that’s just 5.64 millimeters thick and weighs only 165 grams. By comparison, the 17 Pro Max is 3 millimeters thicker and weighs 233 grams. It’s impossible not to feel the difference.
The design of the iPhone Air is undeniably impressive.Foundry
The Air is also stunning. The combination of its ultra-slim design and shiny titanium frame screams luxury. Yet, sales of the iPhone Air are far from being a huge success.
Apple itself doesn’t provide details on sales figures for each iPhone model. But during a call with investors last month, both Apple CEO Tim Cook and Apple CFO Kevan Parekh revealed that the iPhone 17 lineup is the most popular in history.
A Chinese leaker known as “Digital Chat Station” recently shared a report providing some insight into iPhone Air sales, and the numbers aren’t encouraging. According to the report, Apple has been struggling to surpass the 1 million mark for iPhone Air units shipped. So far, the company has reportedly sold around 700,000 units of its thinnest iPhone yet, a shockingly low number for a company that moves some 250 million handsets each year.
Dreams vs reality
I’ve always dreamed of an ultra-thin phone. To me, a phone of the future would be a device with an edge-to-edge display that’s thinner than the iPhone 6. The iPhone Air is, in a way, the closest Apple has ever gotten to that vision.
Many people I know want the same thing: thinner, lighter phones. After all, as smartphones have become more powerful, they’ve also become larger, thicker, and heavier. But the overall failure of the iPhone Air has posed a question: Do people prioritize design over functionality, or the other way around?
Once again, the iPhone Air is impressive. But once you actually start spending time with it, you realize its limitations.
The iPhone Air’s single camera is one of its biggest hurdles.Britta O’Boyle / Foundry
Because it’s so thin, Apple was only able to fit a single rear camera on the iPhone Air. You can’t take ultra-wide or long-range zoom photos with it. That’s not a problem for people who are not into taking photos, but chances are you’ll eventually miss having extra angles for your shots.
The battery is also an issue. After all, there’s no way to fit a huge battery inside an ultra-thin phone. Although Apple claims that the iPhone Air lasts a full day on a single charge, the reality is that this only applies when you’re using your phone for basic tasks. People who work more intensively with their phones end up having to recharge the iPhone Air twice a day.
Also, there are a few other minor limitations, such as the Air having a mono speaker and lacking the vapor chamber found in the iPhone 17 Pro models, which allows the phone to run cooler for longer.
Given the poor sales of the iPhone Air and other thin phones, such as the Galaxy Edge, it seems that people still prefer functionality over design, or at least a balance between the two. Buyers aren’t willing to give up features for a fancy form factor in 2026.
Want vs need
These limitations aren’t a problem for everyone. There are people who really just want a smartphone to do basic things like send messages or browse the web. For those people, an iPhone Air works just fine.
But things get tricky when you start comparing the iPhone Air to the rest of the lineup. Despite all its hardware limitations, the Air starts at $999. That’s only $100 less than the iPhone 17 Pro, which has two extra cameras and a much larger battery.
The iPhone Air’s design makes it significantly more expensive than the base iPhone 17.Eugen Wegmann
Or, if you’re looking for something a bit more affordable, you can get the base iPhone 17 for just $799. For that price, you’re getting a phone with a 120Hz display, two rear cameras, and longer battery life. Plus, the iPhone 17 weighs just 12 grams more than the iPhone Air.
This makes the iPhone Air seem out of place in the lineup. It’s priced similarly to a Pro model, but offers fewer features than the base iPhone.
Giving up certain features is to be expected when you’re buying an entry-level phone like the iPhone 17e, which also has a single rear camera but costs $599 (and still has a larger battery than the iPhone Air). But with the Air, you’re essentially paying more just to get a thinner phone.
When you weigh the price against everything you’ll be missing out on, the iPhone Air becomes hard to justify.
Is there a future for the iPhone Air?
While the iPhone Air represents the future of smartphone design, the future of the iPhone Air itself is now unclear. If the latest reports are accurate, Apple may be rethinking the Air strategy, and it’s easy to see why.
For years, people said they wanted thinner, lighter phones. Apple delivered exactly that. But in doing so, it also exposed an uncomfortable truth: thinness alone isn’t enough anymore.
The fate of the iPhone Air is uncertain due to its underwhelming sales.Eugen Wegmann
Many people now rely on smartphones as more than just communication tools, so compromising on things such as battery life or camera quality is simply out of the question. The iPhone Air asks users to prioritize form over function. And while that sounds appealing in theory, it’s a much harder sell in practice, especially at this price point.
Could Apple fix this in the future? Maybe. More advanced technologies could help Apple fit a larger battery or better cameras into its ultra-thin iPhone, or the company could simply make the Air slightly thicker so that it can pack more technology inside.
The iPhone Air is the dream phone. It’s the kind of device that gets people excited, that reminds us of how far technology has come. But when it comes time to actually spend $999, most people wake up from that dream and choose something more practical.

Ferrari Reveals $640,000 EV Co-Designed by Jony Ive Ferrari today unveiled the Luce, its first fully electric car, designed with help from Apple's former design chief Jony Ive.
"Designed with Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson at the creative collective LoveFrom, a singular design language unites the exterior, interior, and interface with clarity and refined simplicity throughout," said Ferrari.
The exterior of the car has a "smooth, continuous, and uninterrupted" design, with a "shell-like form" and "floating front and rear aerodynamic wings."
The interior has "precision-engineered mechanical buttons, dials, toggles, and switches" combined with "multifunctional digital displays."
The three-spoke steering wheel is machined from 100% recycled aluminum.
The four-door, five-seat Luce is powered by four electric motors providing up to 1,035 horsepower, and it is equipped with a high‑capacity 122 kWh battery. Ferrari says the car can accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 2.5 seconds.
A dedicated app offers climate controls and charging settings, and it displays the car's status.
Luce pricing starts at €550,000 ($640,000) in Europe, with production set to begin in late 2026. The car will launch in the U.S. in the second quarter of 2027.
Apple was rumored to be working on its own electric vehicle for more than a decade, but the project was ultimately canceled last year.Tags: Ferrari, Jony Ive, LoveFromThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Just in time for the warmer weather, Apple’s AirPods Pro 3 have dropped under $200, bringing the price down to $199. That puts Apple’s best earbuds at $50 off their regular MSRP, signaling a fantastic time to splurge on that upgrade.
These are Apple’s best AirPods to date, and one of the best earbuds ever made, as we noted in our 4.5-star rating and our Editors’ Choice award. First off, they’re super secure in the ear, something we struggled with in previous models, and they have a much longer battery life. Also, noise canceling has been improved, and the transparency mode is also better, making it possible to stay aware of your surroundings.
The new heart-rate sensor integrated into the AirPods Pro 3 also pushes these buds into health and travel territories. The buds can track your pulse during workouts and give you useful fitness data without having to wear any extra gear. That’s particularly useful if you don’t want to wear an Apple Watch around your wrist while you work out. Also, when traveling, Live Translation will make your life so much easier.
At $199, the AirPods Pro 3 are an absolute catch, combining premium sound, stronger noise control, and fitness tracking at a much more appealing price.

How Apple TV changed streaming forever Macworld
On April 28, 2003, Apple launched the iTunes Store, kicking off its love affair with services revenue and (perhaps incidentally) saving the music industry from digital doom. Nearly a quarter of a century later, Apple Services VP Eddy Cue is set to receive the award for Entertainment Person of the Year at Cannes Lions. Does this mean Apple has saved TV and movies, too? Not quite, but the recognition is well deserved nonetheless.
Apple’s TV streaming service (named TV+ at the time) didn’t have the most auspicious of beginnings, launching a scant few months before the start of the pandemic. Streaming services with established libraries, such as Disney+ and Netflix, saw viewing figures rise significantly during lockdown, with the urge to binge so great that even niche and overseas shows like Tiger King, Money Heist, and Squid Game became unlikely breakout successes. Apple, meanwhile, was stuck with a handful of movies and shows (although Apple did have one notable lockdown hit in Ted Lasso), and was prevented by distancing laws from filming much new content. At this point, a policy of only showing original content seemed the height of lunacy.
But the advantages of Apple’s approach to streaming would become clear in time. The company recognized from the start that creating rather than syndicating makes sense financially because it scales better. Licensing fees scale with views, whereas production costs remain fixed. With original content, therefore, a certain level of engagement (views, leading to signups, leading to long-term revenue) puts you in the territory of pure profit. When you have a vast captive audience of iPhone and iPad owners to sell into, scale becomes a major concern.
In a broader sense, however, Apple understood that streaming faces a crisis of quality, not quantity. The problem is not having too little content, but having too much.
In the early gold-rush years, streaming companies wooed big-name directors with blank checks and creative freedom, happy to indulge the best of the industry to acquire prestigious titles (The Irishman, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs) and fill their trophy shelves with awards. But as the market contracted and investors became more cautious, this philosophy was replaced by belt-tightening and micromanagement. It became more and more essential for content to earn back its investment, and the industry approached this by applying a method as old as Hollywood itself—take something the punters liked before and do it again, only bigger—and supercharging it with modern data analytics.
A glance at your Netflix or Amazon Prime Video home screen now is unlikely to inspire fanciful thoughts of a new golden age of TV. The stale old virtues have returned: be cautious, take no risks, do what’s worked before. Everything is built from the ground up to maximise engagement with a disengaged audience.
Sequels, prequels, and reboots are the order of the day. Cinematography is largely dead: Netflix Lighting means everything is lit neutrally to save money and avoid making any artistic decisions that can’t be reversed if focus groups get sniffy.
Dialogue, even stories themselves are simplified for second screeners. Everyone bows down to the algorithm, but the algorithm keeps serving up slop; there’s good stuff in there somewhere, but it’s impossible to find. Which means it gets no engagement. Which means no more good stuff gets made.
And all the time, of course, prices go up. And services that distinguished themselves from cable by letting you binge whole series at once, ad-free, have quietly brought back the adverts and returned to more traditional weekly schedules, which are better for keeping subscribers across multiple months.
The streaming market is a dumpster fire, in other words. And while Apple is by no means exempt from the criticisms above, the company has consistently held itself to a higher standard. It has so far resisted the urge to include painful paid ads, limiting itself to mildly annoying but skippable trailers. It beat other streamers to the Best Picture Oscar with CODA, and it continues to take risks and indulge cinematic greats. Killers of the Flower Moon, a multilingual epic about historical crimes lasting nearly three and a half hours, is scarcely targeted at people browsing Instagram on their phones.
But if there have been notable wins on the big screen, Apple TV’s most striking success has been in the realm of, well, TV.
Generally speaking, if cinema has a love-hate affair with art, TV is in a committed relationship with commerce. Shows are spun out long past their sell-by date if they make money, afflicted by filler episodes, fan service shipping, and general shark jumping–before the process begins again with a spinoff. Shows that don’t generate ROI are killed off unceremoniously. Cynics can be forgiven for enjoying the first episode of something and then immediately wondering how long it’ll be before it either ends prematurely or goes severely downhill.
But look at some of Apple TV’s offerings in this department. Severance is weird and confusing and deeply passionate, and doesn’t have an ounce of fat on it. Pluribus is beautiful and compelling, and my favorite TV show in years. Absolutely zero filler episodes there.
Tehran and Drops of God are uncompromisingly great. Who doesn’t love Gary Oldman’s disheveled cunning in Slow Horses? Nobody, that’s who. And while I’m not convinced that either Sugar or Smoke stuck the landing at the end of their first seasons, they took exactly the right kind of risks along the way.
Apple clearly hasn’t saved the TV industry, because the TV industry wasn’t dying, not commercially, anyway. But the company has held out more fiercely than any other streamer against the industry-wide decline in artistic standards. And that has to be worth an award.

How do you know you’re ready to release? Hi guys! A bit of a noob dev here, and I need some love and support 😀 (And criticism. Plenty of criticism. :D) Long story short: I have made an app I genuinely find useful — it lets users store their recipes (OCR, PDF, YT import). MacBook Ultra: 5 Features That Could Justify the Name Reports and rumors suggest the next MacBook Pro that Apple will release might not be a MacBook Pro at all. It could actually be something altogether new and more exciting – a "MacBook Ultra" – positioned above the Pro as Apple's top-tier laptop, suggesting that the current M5 Pro and M5 Max models will remain on sale when it launches.
The MacBook would be just the latest Apple product to carry the Ultra name, which already spans the Apple Watch Ultra and CarPlay Ultra (not forgetting Apple's top-end Ultra-designated silicon chips). This is likely to bring a markedly higher price point for the new machines. It fits into a broader trend at Apple, where the company is seeking to offer more models at more price points, such as the new MacBook Neo at an unprecedented $599 price point.
Below, we've listed the features we are expecting in the MacBook Ultra, which is likely to go on sale either later this year or in early 2027. As things stand, the latter time frame is now looking more likely, owing to the global memory chip shortage.
OLED Display
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo say Apple is readying OLED technology for these models, and industry reports corroborate their claims. Samsung Display is said to be making the panels, and the supplier has invested heavily in an 8.6-generation OLED production line in South Korea. The line recently reached a key milestone for mass production.
The MacBook Pro will utilize hybrid OLED technology, similar to that used in Apple's latest iPad Pro. This display technology combines a glass substrate with thin-film encapsulation, offering improved brightness, contrast, and power efficiency compared to current MacBook Pro models, which use LCD displays with mini-LED backlighting.
Touch Screen
The new MacBook Pro is expected to become the first Mac to support touch input directly on the display. It's a notable shift from Apple's longstanding position against bringing touchscreen functionality to the Mac.
Apple previously experimented with touch controls through the OLED Touch Bar on earlier MacBook Pro models, but the feature was ultimately discontinued following a lukewarm reception. Rather than positioning the MacBook Pro as a touch-centric device like the iPad, Apple is reportedly planning to let users move seamlessly between touch and traditional trackpad or mouse input across the system.
This will require updates to macOS to make it more touch friendly, and users will reportedly be able to tap or click on-screen elements, and controls will change based on input method. If a user taps on a menu bar item, for example, it will display a larger set of controls optimized for touch.
Thinner Design
Gurman has reported that Apple is working to make the OLED MacBook Pro significantly thinner, as part of the company's plan to create "the thinnest and lightest products in their categories across the whole tech industry." (Think the latest iPad Pro and iPad Air – two of the thinnest devices the company has ever made.) Indeed, the reporter has said there's a good chance that the next MacBook Pro model will represent a "true overhaul" for the laptop, thanks to the combination of the OLED display and thinner design.
Notably, the MacBook Pro got thicker and heavier with its most recent redesign in 2021. A major highlight was the reintroduction of several ports that were removed in previous iterations in favor of chassis thinness. How Apple will make its redesigned MacBook Pro thinner without removing the functionality it reintroduced fairly recently is the big question.
Dynamic Island
Apple's highly anticipated OLED MacBook Pro could ditch the current notch for a display cutout potentially similar to the iPhone's Dynamic Island, according to Bloomberg. Such a move would mirror Apple's iPhone evolution, since the iPhone's notch became the current Dynamic Island starting with the iPhone 14 Pro models in 2022.
As with the iPhone, the Mac Dynamic Island will be interactive and it will contextually expand based on the app or Mac feature in use. The change should address long-standing user complaints about the notch, which physically ingresses into the macOS menu bar.
M6 Processor Architecture
The redesigned MacBook Pro models are expected to boast M6 Pro and M6 Max chips, which could adopt a completely new packaging based on TSMC's 2nm process that allows components such as the CPU, GPUs, DRAM, and Neural Engine to be more tightly integrated.
Terms like "3nm" and "2nm" describe generations of chip manufacturing technology, each with its own set of design rules and architecture. As these numbers decrease, they generally indicate smaller transistor sizes. Smaller transistors allow more to be packed onto a single chip, typically resulting in increased processing speed and improved power efficiency.
Based on where the industry's headed, Apple is likely to heavily market the processors as optimized for AI workflows. This article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

watchOS 27 Will Add These New Features to Your Apple Watch Apple will unveil watchOS 27 during its WWDC 2026 keynote on Monday, June 8, and a handful of new features have been rumored already.
The first developer beta of watchOS 27 should be available immediately following the keynote, and a public beta typically follows in July. The update should be released to all users with a compatible Apple Watch model in September.
Below, we recap watchOS 27 rumors so far.
Improved Heart Rate Tracking
In his Power On newsletter today, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said watchOS 27 will include improvements to heart rate tracking, but he did not elaborate.
New Modular Watch Face
watchOS 27 will add new watch faces, including a variant of the "Modular Ultra" watch face that is currently exclusive to the Apple Watch Ultra, according to Gurman.
New Apple Intelligence Features
On watchOS 26, the following Apple Intelligence features are available on an Apple Watch when it is paired with an iPhone 15 Pro or newer:
Workout Buddy
Live Translation in Messages
Notification SummariesWhen it announced the dates for WWDC 2026, Apple promised to unveil "AI advancements" across its platforms, and it can be reasonably assumed that watchOS 27 will include some additional Apple Intelligence features powered by the iPhone.
New Satellite Features
Apple Watch Ultra 3 has built-in satellite connectivity, enabling Emergency SOS, Find My, and Messages via satellite without any reliance on an iPhone.
iOS 27 will reportedly include up to five new satellite features, and the following two would likely extend to watchOS 27:Apple Maps via satellite
Photos support for Messages via satelliteAmazon last month announced plans to acquire Globalstar, the satellite company that powers Apple's satellite features on the iPhone 14 and newer and the Apple Watch Ultra 3. In turn, Amazon announced that it has signed an agreement with Apple to provide satellite connectivity for current and future iPhone and Apple Watch features.
Stability Focus
Apple is largely focused on "stability, performance, and smaller refinements" for watchOS 27, rather than on major new features and capabilities, according to Gurman. This suggests that the update could include many bug fixes.Related Roundups: Apple Watch 11, watchOS 26Tags: Bloomberg, Mark GurmanBuyer's Guide: Apple Watch (Caution)Related Forum: Apple WatchThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Apple Preparing New 'Gen AI' Website Ahead of WWDC — and New AI Features? Apple just registered a new subdomain record: genai.apple.com.
The domain was spotted by a MacRumors contributing researcher, and though it doesn't yet lead to a live web page, they believe it's tied to Apple's annual developers conference WWDC which starts June 8, "where the company has promised to announce 'AI advancements' across its software platforms."
The blog 9to5Mac speculates that "All signs point to WWDC 2026 being Apple's major AI renaissance, where the company will live up to the promises it made back at WWDC 2024, as well as a few additional new announcements."
[I]it goes without saying that this is probably related to Apple's upcoming generative AI announcements at WWDC... Siri should finally be able to understand more personal context, have on screen awareness, and be able to take action in apps for you. This'll finally be made possible thanks to Apple's new partnership with Google, where Apple will be using Gemini-diffused models hosted on Private Cloud Compute to power Siri... Apple will also reportedly be introducing a new Siri app. This'll allow you to access your previous Siri conversations, as well as have text-based conversations with Siri.
Other Apple Intelligence upgrades coming at WWDC 2026 include the ability to generate wallet passes from physical tickets, new editing features in the Photos app, and additional functionality for Visual Intelligence...

Report: watchOS 27 to improve heart-rate tracking; AI health coach may not debut at launch For the better part of a year, we’ve been hearing about Project Mulberry: Apple’s AI-powered health coach. Back in February, it was reported that these efforts had been scaled back. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the features should still be on track for iOS 27, though they may not release until later in the cycle.
On the other hand, Apple is apparently going to greatly improve Apple Watch heart-rate tracking with watchOS 27, which could tie in nicely with Apple’s eventual health coach.

While this has so far meant the blocking of some features from reaching the continent, Apple is meeting halfway by abiding by some elements. One of those will apparently be a change to iOS 27 for connecting to other devices.
