Canada's online safety bill could threaten encryption, Apple & Google push for amendments As the Canadian bill for online safety is being debated in the House of Commons, Apple and Google have shared their desire for judicial oversight and protections for encryption in the bill.Apple uses end-to-end encryption to protect user data, even when governments don't approveApple isn't afraid to pull out the big guns when dealing with overzealous regulators. Just as it had to pull safety features in the UK in response to backdoor requests, it could do the same in Canada.According to a report from Reuters, Apple and Google representatives both spoke on the bill as it was being debated in the House of Commons. The bill, C-22, is an online safety bill that is meant, in part, to give law enforcement access to encrypted data. Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums

Apple Releases New Firmware for AirTag 2 Apple today released new firmware for its second-generation AirTag item trackers. The firmware has a 3.0.49 version number, up from 3.0.45, and it is the second firmware update that Apple has provided for the AirTag 2.
There is no word yet on what's included in the firmware, but AirTag firmware updates most often address bugs and make other under-the-hood improvements. Apple's prior firmware update tweaked the unwanted tracking sound to make it easier to find an unknown AirTag when using Precision Finding.
Apple will provide details on what's in the 3.0.49 firmware when it updates its firmware support page.
For the original AirTag, firmware was distributed on a rolling basis over two weeks, but Apple appears to be pushing firmware updates to all AirTag 2 users at the same time.
You can check your AirTag firmware by opening the Find My app, going to the Items tab, selecting an AirTag in the list, and tapping on the AirTag's name to see its firmware version.
There is no way to force an AirTag update, and firmware is installed over the air via a connected iPhone. To get new firmware, make sure your AirTag is within range of your iPhone, and then wait for the firmware to roll out.Related Roundup: AirTagBuyer's Guide: AirTag (Buy Now)This article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

iOS 27 Siri Redesign Will Use Dark Color Scheme, Matching Apple's WWDC Art Apple is redesigning Siri for iOS 27 to accommodate new artificial intelligence features and chatbot capabilities. Siri is getting a dedicated app, integration with the iPhone's Dynamic Island, and a new design scheme.
The graphics that Apple is using to promote WWDC hint at its design plans for Siri, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. In this week's Power On newsletter, Gurman said the logo Apple uses for its WWDC website features the same colors it will use for Siri animations and input fields in iOS 27.
Apple's WWDC site features the Swift bird logo in white on a black background, with subtle highlights in pink, dark blue, purple, and orange. The colors are reminiscent of the current Siri animation that surrounds the iPhone's display when Siri is activated, but the shades are softer and not as saturated.
The Siri interface that Apple is testing uses all dark colors with no light mode available for now. Several of the new Siri UI elements will have a dark background with a cursor that blinks in those same colors.
Apple is creating a dedicated app for Siri for ongoing chatbot-style conversations, and it'll look similar to existing chatbot apps but with a Messages-style aesthetic. When Siri is activated, there will be a pill-shaped animation in the Dynamic Island and a glowing "searching" label while Siri is answering a query. Results are displayed in a translucent panel, and pulling down on the panel will initiate a conversation interface.
Swiping down from the top center of the display will activate a system-wide search interface with a Search or Ask bar for typing or speaking questions to Siri.
Apple plans to entirely overhaul Siri, and the personal assistant will be able to do far more than before. Apple has licensed Google's Gemini models to power Siri after its own AI models proved inadequate. With Gemini as Siri's backbone, Apple should be able to match many of the AI features that Google offers.
iOS 27 will be introduced at the WWDC 2026 keynote on June 8.Related Roundups: iOS 27, WWDC 2026Tag: SiriRelated Forum: Apple, Inc and Tech IndustryThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums
Level Lock Pro Review: An Apple Home Key Smart Lock That Doesn't Look Like One The Level Lock Pro is Level's latest smart lock, featuring Matter connectivity for Apple Home, multiple unlocking methods, door status, and the unassuming design that Level products are known for.
I've tested and reviewed several great HomeKit-compatible smart locks, but Level Locks are my personal favorite because of the look. From both the inside and the outside, Level Locks look like a standard deadbolt and not like a smart lock. I had feature-rich smart locks from Aqara that I was using for about a year after a review, but I got tired of looking at the bulky boxes on my doors. A couple of months ago, I bought two standard Level Locks, and then later, Level sent me the Level Lock Pro.
I don't think there's any smart lock solution that has a better aesthetic than the Level Lock, so if that's important to you, these are the locks to get. It comes in satin nickel and matte black, so it should match many standard doorknobs. The Level Lock Pro has an IP54 water and dust resistance rating, so it will hold up fine in the rain.
Level Locks are not the cheapest locks on the market, and depending on what you're comparing against, there's a premium for design. The Level Lock Pro is $349, and the Level Lock is $249. Aqara locks range from $150 to $270, and Matter locks from Eufy, Yale, and Kwikset are in that same range.
The Level Lock Pro replaces a standard deadbolt and strike plate on your door, so installation is a matter of pulling out the existing deadbolt and walking through the Level Lock Pro instructions to install the new lock. I am going to blame this on my crummy doors, but I have more trouble installing Level Locks than other smart locks. Level Locks have a wide, circular bolt that's not the shape of most deadbolts, and I haven't had a Level Lock setup where I didn't have to fuss with the fit of the lock in the door or the fit of the plate on the doorframe. I generally get things to work, but there's frustration involved.
There are smart locks that can unlock your door with fingerprint sensors, palm recognition, facial scans, and codes, but the Level Lock Pro is simpler. You can use a key, one of the two included NFC key fobs, tap to unlock with your phone or watch, use the Home app or Level app, or ask Siri to unlock the door.
The Level Lock Pro integrates with HomeKit using Matter, and it also supports Apple Home Key so you can store a key in the Wallet app on iPhone or Apple Watch. With Home Key, I can unlock my door without having to unlock my iPhone and with no need for Face ID. I just tap my phone or my watch on the lock, and it unlocks.
Siri and the Home app work for unlocking too, and there's a Level app. I don't use the Level app, but it is available for locking and unlocking, assigning codes, setting up auto lock and auto unlock (which uses Bluetooth and unlocks when you're in range), adjusting sound, giving someone a door code, and enabling door status. Like the Level Lock, the Level app has an uncomplicated design, so it's easy to get to all of the features.
Door status is a Level Lock Pro feature that lets you know if your door is open or closed, and it works when the door is unlocked. I have the Level Lock Pro on my garage door, and it's a door that's often not locked, so it's useful to get an alert when it's opened.
I use the Home app and Siri to unlock my Level Locks, especially if I'm not home and need to let someone in. I also ask Siri to open the door as I approach, so a lot of the time, I'm not even using tap to unlock. The Home app sends a notification to my iPhone and Apple TV when a connected lock is locked or unlocked, and the Home app Activity log keeps track of when each door was locked or unlocked. Everyone that's invited to an Apple Home can access the lock, but you can also share access with the Level app. The Level app supports temporary entry, which is useful for a one-time event or a weekly cleaning.
The Home app is also useful for automations, like locking up automatically when everyone leaves the home or unlocking the door at a certain time. I have an automation that locks all my locks at 10:00 p.m., just in case I forget to lock one of the doors.
For remote access features, you need a Matter-over-Thread controller and a border router, which are requirements fulfilled by a HomePod or Apple TV. You need one of those to add any Matter-enabled device to HomeKit. The Level Lock Pro connects to Apple Home using Thread instead of Wi-Fi, but if you want Wi-Fi connectivity, there is an optional Level Connect Wi-Fi Bridge. I haven't needed it because HomeKit provides all of the same functionality. You can also add on a keypad if you want that option.
Most smart locks have a battery in the box that goes on the door, but the Level Lock Pro's battery is in the deadbolt. It uses a CR2 Lithium battery, which fits inside the deadbolt once the cap is taken off. Changing the battery is a matter of opening the door, locking it, popping out the old battery, and adding in the new one. The Level app lets you know battery status, so you can keep tabs on when it's time to update the battery. Each battery lasts for about a year, and I haven't had to change mine yet.
According to Level, the Level Lock Pro has an ANSI Grade 1 bump- and pick resistant cylinder, which isn't common for smart locks. That means it's resistant to lockpicking, it's harder to drill out, and lock bumping is harder.
How to Buy
The Level Lock Pro is available from the Level website or from Amazon.com for $349.
Note: Level provided MacRumors with Level Lock Pro for the purpose of this review. No other compensation was received.

The first iOS 26.6 beta is here, but good luck finding anything new Macworld
Apple has wasted no time in starting to test the next release of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, macOS 26, etc. The 26.6 releases are expected to focus on bugs and security fixes and won’t include any significant new features. It’s possible it will add support for any new hardware that might be announced at WWDC 26, too.
What’s new in iOS 26.6
With this first release, the only new “feature” we’ve heard of is a notification to warn users when they’re approaching the limit on blocked calls. We’ll update this article if any user-facing features of note are discovered.
iOS 26.6: How to install
If you want to test the iOS 26 beta releases but are not a registered developer, follow these steps:
Click Sign Up on the Apple Beta page and register with your Apple ID.
Log in to the Beta Software Program.
Click Enroll your iOS device.
Open the Settings app, tap General, then Software Update.
In the Beta Updates section, select the iOS Public Beta.
It may take a few moments after registering for the beta option to appear in Software Update.
iOS 26.6: How to install the developer beta
You’ll need to be registered as an Apple developer, but a free developer account will do. You can get one via Xcode or the Apple Developer app in iOS. Here’s how to do it via the Apple Developer app:

macOS 26 Tahoe Beta: Latest beta and how to get it Macworld
Every year, Apple updates the Mac operating system. The current version of macOS is macOS 26, and Apple runs a beta program, which means developers and registered public testers can try out new features before they are released to the general public later in the year.
The beta process doesn’t stop with the full release of macOS in the fall. After macOS 26 Tahoe arrived on Macs in September 2025, development continued with new features rolled out every couple of months.
In this article, we’ll explain what you need to do to get your hands on a copy of the new beta of macOS 26, how to install it, and what you should bear in mind if you want to avoid problems. (If you would prefer to use the latest official release of macOS, here’s how to update macOS on your Mac.)
Update May 26, 2026: Apple released macOS 26.6 beta 1.
macOS beta: Latest version
The most recent version of the macOS 26 Tahoe developer beta is version 26.6 beta 1. It was released on May 26, 2026.
Following WWDC 2025 on June 9, the macOS 26 developer beta is now available to download for those signed up to the program. The “macOS 26” name is part of a coherent annual naming system along with iOS 26 and iPadOS 26.
Foundry
macOS beta: Next beta update
New betas tend to arrive every one to two weeks, and more frequently as the full release data approaches.
The beta testing program will continue to run after the new macOS 26 software launches in September or October 2025, with Apple continuing to roll out new features.
How to get the macOS beta
To get the developer version of the macOS 26 beta, you need to be running macOS Sequoia and be registered for Apple’s developer program, either having paid $99/£79 to enroll in Apple’s Developer program (here) or with a free developer account (follow the instructions below for how to register for that).
Alternatively, if it’s the public beta you are after, you just need to sign up for the Public Beta program on Apple’s beta webpage, sign the NDA, and enroll your Mac. Details of how to do that are below.
As long as you are a registered developer or enrolled in the public beta program, when the relevant macOS Beta becomes available, it will also show up on your Mac.
Before you download the beta, a few warnings:
We strongly advise that if you aren’t a developer, you don’t download the developer beta.
We also strongly recommend that you back up your Mac before you upgrade to the macOS beta.
We recommend that you do not run the macOS beta on your primary Mac; ideally, run it in a separate volume. This should minimize any risks to you.
How to get a free Apple developer account
If you just want a free Apple Developer account so you can access the beta, you can get this via Xcode or the Apple Developer app in iOS. Here’s how to do it via the Apple Developer app on an iPhone:
Get the Apple Developer App from the App Store.
Open the app on your iPhone.
Tap on Account.
Tap on Sign In.
Sign in using your usual Apple ID.
If you wish to actually publish applications to the App Store or receive support, you’ll need to pay $99/£79 per year for a paid account. You can compare the free and paid accounts here.
How to register for the macOS public beta
The macOS public beta is accessible to anyone with a valid Apple ID.
To register, go to the Apple Beta Software Program page.
Select the “Sign Up” option.
Sign in using your Apple ID.
Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the registration process.
Enrol the Mac you wish to run the beta on via this Apple page.
How to download macOS beta
Open Software Updates on your Mac. (System Settings > General > Software Updates.)
You should see two options: Automatic Updates and Beta Updates. Click on the (i) beside Beta Updates.
You can now turn on Beta Updates (if they weren’t already on).
Choose the beta you want to download: public or developer.
If your account is tied to a different Apple ID than your usual one, you can change that here.
Click Done.
Now your Mac will check for updates and eventually show the latest macOS Beta as an upgrade. Click on Upgrade Now.
Foundry
Do I need the macOS Beta Access Utility?
Only if you are running macOS Ventura 13.3 or earlier.
Apple changed the way it delivers betas in Ventura 13.4. If you aren’t yet running that version of macOS you will need to download the macOS Developer Beta Access Utility or macOS Public Beta Access Utility in order to download betas.
If you were already running an earlier macOS Public Beta you’ll find the new macOS beta as an upgrade via Software Update. Just click on Upgrade Now. You may have to update to the latest version of your current beta before you can do so, if not follow the steps below to get the beta access utility.
If you are enrolled in the Developer Program, go to Apple’s beta download page. Click on Install Profile to download the new macOS Developer Beta Access Utility to your Mac.
If you are enrolled as a public beta tester, download the macOS Public Beta Access Utility.
Go to Downloads on your Mac and click on the macOS Beta Access Utility to open it.
Double-click on the dmg file and the installer will run.
Once the new macOS beta is installed Software Update will check to see if there are any updates. Click Update and the latest version will download.
You’ll see a prompt to install the latest macOS beta, click on Continue.
Agree to the Ts&Cs (more on them below).
Click Install.
Once you are running the beta, the updates will come through to your Mac automatically; you just need to click to install.
You will receive a notification when the next update to the beta is available.
Updates will be available via Software Update (in System Settings/System Preferences)
FAQ
1.
Who can run the macOS beta?
Anyone can run the macOS beta, but to do so, you do need to register for either the developer beta, the pubic beta, or both.
Apple offers both developer and public beta programs for macOS, enabling all interested users to test pre-release versions of the operating system. While both betas provide early access to new features, they cater to different user profiles based on technical expertise and risk tolerance. Beta software tends to be buggy so the more stable public beta version may be preferable, but even that will not be bug-free.
In the past, the developer beta was only available to developers who had paid to join Apple’s Developer Program (which costs $99/£79). However, for a couple of years now, Apple has opened up the developer beta to registered developers with free developer accounts. We explain how to get a free developer account below.
If you decide you no longer want to run the beta version of macOS read this: How to remove the macOS beta.

Since 2023, the Developer Beta has been available to anyone who registers as a developer, even if they aren’t a paid-up member of Apple’s Developer Program. As a result, people with a basic free developer account can download the new macOS developer beta (we show you how to register below).
Whether you should download the developer beta if you aren’t a developer is another question. We don’t recommend you install the developer beta if you aren’t a developer. Instead, our recommendation is to use the public beta (the first version of which usually arrives in July).
There are a few differences between the public and developer betas. The public beta is not the same as the beta that is released through the developer program. The public beta typically launches after the developer beta has undergone initial testing and refinement
Developers get updates to their beta first, and possibly more frequently. But you should keep in mind that betas are by nature not stable, and because the public beta comes after the developer beta it could be a little safer to install.
The most significant difference is probably the motive of the testers: Developers usually have the aim of ensuring their apps work when the updated macOS is released to the general public, while public beta testers are essentially helping Apple detect bugs and offering feedback on the features. Because of this, developers may get to test new features not available in the public beta.
If you want to get the public beta the first thing you need to do, if you haven’t already, is join Apple’s beta programs read this for more information: How to become an Apple beta tester.
3.
Is the macOS beta stable?
By its nature, a beta has the potential to be unstable. Therefore, it’s not advised that you install it on a Mac that you rely on. If you have a second Mac that isn’t mission-critical, then install it there. We strongly recommend that you don’t risk all by putting the macOS beta on your primary macOS, especially not in the early days of the beta development.
If you don’t have a second Mac, there are a couple of ways you could run macOS beta on your Mac without running the risk of losing data or finding your Mac stops working:
We recommend installing it on a partition, which these days is really a volume (and is much easier to create than a partition was). Read about how to do that here: How to dual-boot Mac: Run two versions of macOS on a Mac.
Alternatively, you could install the macOS beta on an external drive and run it on that.
We discuss the safety of the macOS beta and the risks you might be taking in more detail in a separate article.
If the stability of the beta worries you, then you are probably better off waiting until the final version is out, or at least waiting until testing has been happening for a few months before getting the beta.
4.
How to prepare your Mac for the beta
Update your software: We recommend you have the latest full version of macOS installed, although Apple says that the macOS Developer Beta Access Utility requires macOS 10.8 or later.
Make space: We’d recommend at least 15GB of available space because the macOS betas tend to be very large. If you end up requiring more space, read: How to free up space on Mac. Note that we always recommend that you have at least 10% space free on your Mac at any time, so if you don’t have that, expect problems!
Back up: Before you install a beta on your Mac, you should make a backup of your data and files. You can find out how to use Time Machine to back up your Mac. We also have a round-up of suitable backup solutions.
5.
How to send feedback to Apple
Should you come across an error or a bug, you should use the Feedback Assistant app to provide feedback to Apple. Launch the app and follow the appropriate steps, selecting the area about which you’re providing feedback and then any specific sub-area. Then describe your issue in a single sentence, before providing a more detailed description, including any specific steps that reproduce the issue. You’ll also be able to attach other files.
You’ll also have to give permission for the Feedback Assistant app to collect diagnostic information from your Mac.
It won’t always be obvious whether something is a bug or just not as easy to use as you might have hoped. Either way, if your feedback is that something appears to work in an illogical way, Apple will want to know that.
If you are having trouble with a third-party app, you can let Apple know by reporting it through the 3rd-party Application Compatibility category in the Feedback Assistant. However, we’d suggest that you also provide feedback to the app’s developer, who will no doubt be grateful.
6.
Will I be able to update from macOS beta to the final version?
Beta users will be able to install the final build of the OS on release day without needing to reformat or reinstall.
7.
Can I talk about the beta publicly?
According to Apple and the license agreement all beta testers must agree to, the beta is “Apple confidential information”. By accepting those terms, you agree not to discuss your use of the software with anyone who isn’t also in the Beta Software Program. That means you can’t “blog, post screenshots, tweet, or publicly post information about the public beta software.”
However, you can discuss any information that Apple has publicly disclosed; the company says that information is no longer considered confidential.
8.
How to downgrade from the macOS beta
You can always revert to an earlier version of macOS, though depending on how you back up, it’s not necessarily a painless process.
Start by making sure the data on your drive is backed up, then erase the drive and install the latest public version of macOS. When you first start up your Mac, you can use the Migration Assistant to import your data from the backup. Here’s a more detailed tutorial on downgrading from the macOS beta and we also have a tutorial on downgrading to an older version of the Mac OS.

iOS 26.6 Will Alert You When You've Maxed Out Blocked Contacts Apple's iOS 26.6 update appears to add new wording around blocked contact limits, though it is unclear if the actual limits have changed.
Code in the beta suggests users will get a warning if they exceed the maximum number of blocked contacts. "You've reached the maximum number of blocked contacts. To block additional callers, remove a blocked contact in Settings," reads the alert, which is titled "Blocked Contacts Limit Reached."
Based on discussions on social media and Apple's Support Communities, some users have been unable to block additional contacts after hitting a 20,000 limit. Other people have mentioned running into issues after 8,000, and some have experienced issues with even fewer phone numbers blocked. Apple does not offer documentation on blocking limits.
With limits in the thousands at least, it's unlikely most people have had blocking problems, though a person who is blocking spam callers regularly could eventually hit a cap. iOS 26.6 might make it clearer when a limit has been reached, and what to do about it.
Removing older blocked contacts is the solution, which can be done by going to Settings > Apps > Phone > Blocked Contacts. There is no bulk unblocking tool, and the easiest way to remove a contact is to swipe left on each entry. Alternatively, you can select Edit, tap on the red minus button next to each contact, and choose the unblock option.
iOS 26 added an Ask Reason for Calling option that sends calls from people who aren't in your Contacts directly to voicemail, which is an easier option for spam call management than blocking phone numbers. With the feature turned on, a caller can state their reason for calling and the person receiving the call can decide whether to pick up. Alternatively, all calls from unknown numbers can be silenced and sent to voicemail with no alert using the Silence option.
Missed calls and voicemails from unknown callers can also be filtered into a separate Unknown Callers list in the Phone app. Some carriers also offer a separate spam detection option that can send calls from known spammers to the Spam list.
Apple seeded the first beta of iOS 26.6 to developers today, and the software may soon be made available to public beta testers. A public release is likely several weeks away. So far, there are no other known features in iOS 26.6.Related Roundups: iOS 26, iPadOS 26Related Forum: iOS 26This article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

When you take your cup from room to room, the battery will keep your beverage hot for up to 90 minutes on a full charge. Setting up your mug is a seamless experience, and you can get the app or skip it entirely, as the cup will remember the last-used setting automatically. The scratch-resistant coating is safe to hand wash and IPX7 rated for full submersion. You can order one in copper or black.

Typed the wrong macOS password? That brief pause isn’t a glitch Macworld
When you’re starting up or restarting your Mac, everyone knows you’ll need to log in to a user account to continue the startup process. This involves selecting a user account on the Mac and then entering a password. Even if you have Touch ID enabled, macOS will force you to type in your password following a reboot as an extra security measure.
If you’re following good security practices, you’ve created a strong password, one that’s practically impossible to figure out in a few seconds or minutes. The one thing about strong passwords is that they can be tricky to type–you’re bound to make a mistake when typing in a passworld like, “T+|Il1imnS∫$&:;,.”
When you enter an incorrect login password, you’ve probably noticed that the macOS login box pauses for a second or two and then shakes before you can try again. It’s a brief pause, but it can seem like a maddening one, especially since it instantly logs you in when you get it right. Why does it pause? Aren’t we in an era where Macs immediately know when you’ve typed in the wrong password?
That pause is there by design–it’s an important security measure. It’s there to discourage brute force attacks, multiple attempts per second by an unauthorized user to guess your password. You know how you get annoyed by that pause before you can make another attempt to type your password? Imagine how a threat agent feels during that pause. If that threat agent is using automated tools for a brute force attack, the pause cuts down the number of attempts that can be performed, thus cutting down the chances of figuring out your password.
Of course, Apple also has security to prevent bad actors from working around this, too. After four wrong attempts, your Mac will lock for a minute; after five attempts, it’ll lock for five minutes; after six attempts, 15 minutes; all the way up to eight hours after nine attempts. Get it wrong a 10th time, and you’ll be locked out for good.
So, the next time you miss on your password entry, and you’re anxiously awaiting for the password box to stop shaking, just remember that the Mac is doing that as a precaution. Be glad that someone’s looking out for you. After all, it’s a really quick pause that goes a long way to keeping your Mac safe.
Future iPhone might get real underwater photography features New research shows that Apple doesn't just want to protect iPhones from water damage, it wants them to take perfect photos while in that water.Future iPhone camera lenses could be protected to shoot underwater, possibly via a slim case. There have long been third-party accessories that make it possible to film underwater with an iPhone. But as Apple itself notes in a newly-granted patent, such devices came with a specific problem."When capturing images underwater, typically the camera system must be protected from the water," says Apple in the "Plurality Of Optical Centers In A Unified Free Form, Hemispherical Optic" patent. In certain cases, "a barrier specific to the lens may be provided, for example in the case of a dome port." Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums
Android Brands May Copy Apple's New Split iPhone Launch Strategy Android manufacturers are planning to adopt Apple's split launch strategy, releasing high-end and standard models in separate windows rather than simultaneously, according to the leaker known as "Digital Chat Station."
The leaker made the claim in a new post on Weibo this week, saying the "Android camp may repeat this style of play" with Pro series and standard models launching separately in a move to "comprehensively go head-to-head" with Apple. The leaker described it as a move to "fully benchmark" Apple, suggesting the motivation is competitive rather than logistical.
The same post reiterated earlier predictions about Apple's plans. Starting this year, Apple is widely expected to break from its long-standing September release cycle by splitting the iPhone 18 lineup across two windows: the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the first foldable iPhone are expected to launch in fall 2026, while the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and a second-generation iPhone Air are expected in spring 2027.
Digital Chat Station attributed the delay partly to supply pressure on memory and 2nm chip production, which is an explanation consistent with Nikkei Asia's corroborating report in January, which also cited a deliberate commercial motive to maximize revenue from premium models before cheaper alternatives arrive.
Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and The Information have also supported the rumor of the split launch. Kuo framed the strategy as a way to prevent "diluted marketing efforts" as Apple's lineup expands to six devices and to address the "marketing gap" created by Chinese Android brands that typically launch their flagships in the first half of the year, a window Apple has historically ceded entirely to Android.
If Android brands do adopt the same release plan, it would mark a noticeable departure from current practice. Samsung, Apple's most direct competitor, launches its Galaxy S flagship family, standard, Plus, and Ultra, simultaneously each February or March, then launches foldables in a separate mid-year event in July. All tiers of the S series ship together and there is no equivalent of deliberately holding the base model back.
Xiaomi regularly launches flagship models in China several months before a global rollout, and its Ultra-tier models often arrive weeks or months after standard and Pro variants within the same generation. Oppo and Vivo similarly stagger Ultra devices relative to their base flagships, but in each case the split is led by entry level models debuting first, followed by high-end devices.
Should Android manufacturers adopt Apple's new plan, it would largely represent an inversion of the current approach, with premium models leading and standard devices following months later.Tags: Android, Digital Chat StationThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums
Apple Watch for Diabetes: The Latest on Apple's Plans for Non-Invasive Blood Sugar Monitoring For many years now, it has been rumored that the Apple Watch will eventually gain non-invasive blood sugar monitoring capabilities, which would enable millions of people with diabetes to track their blood glucose levels without needing to prick their skin with a needle or wear a dedicated continuous glucose monitor.
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple recently shifted oversight of the project from its platform architecture chief Tim Millet to Zongjian Chen, a senior engineer overseeing advanced technologies within the company.
He framed this change as positive news for the project, which has apparently been in development for more than 15 years.
"Some view the transition as a sign the work may finally be progressing to a point where Chen, known as someone who delivers, can ramp up development of the technology into an eventual consumer-grade offering," he said.
In 2023, Gurman reported that Apple's system would rely on a laser that would emit light under the skin to determine a person's blood glucose level.
"The system uses lasers to emit specific wavelengths of light into an area below the skin where there is interstitial fluid — substances that leak out of capillaries — that can be absorbed by glucose," he said. "The light is then reflected back to the sensor in a way that indicates the concentration of glucose."
An algorithm would ultimately determine a person's blood glucose level, and the feature could also alert users to potential signs of prediabetes.
While the project has new leadership, the Apple Watch is still unlikely to gain non-invasive blood sugar monitoring for several more years, if ever. But if Apple eventually achieves this moonshot, the Apple Watch would provide diabetic people with a more comfortable and convenient solution for keeping track of their blood sugar.Related Roundup: Apple Watch 11Tags: Bloomberg, Mark GurmanBuyer's Guide: Apple Watch (Caution)This article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Leaker Pushes Back on Rumors of Pro iPhone's Return to Titanium The Pro iPhone models are unlikely to return to titanium in the near future due to the heat dissipation demands of local AI, according to a known Weibo leaker.
The claim comes from the leaker known as "Fixed Focus Digital," and pushes back on an earlier report from "Instant Digital," who suggested Apple was weighing up the use of liquid metal or an improved titanium alloy as a longer-term replacement for aluminum iPhone frames. Fixed Focus Digital argues that aluminum's thermal properties make it the only practical choice for now, given the processing requirements of AI features. The leaker adds that this is not an Apple-specific issue, noting that Android and Huawei HarmonyOS devices also prioritize aluminum for the same reason.
Instant Digital's earlier report argued that Apple's switch from titanium to aluminum for the iPhone 17 Pro was a compromise solution while it continued to develop longer-term alternatives. The leaker claimed Apple was exploring both liquid metal and revised titanium alloys for future Pro models, with both materials reportedly already earmarked for the upcoming foldable iPhone.
Apple switched away from titanium following overheating complaints on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro models, although the iPhone Air continues to use it. Fixed Focus Digital's assessment suggests aluminum is more deeply entrenched in Apple's plans than Instant Digital's framing implied, at least for the foreseeable future. The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to retain the same aluminum unibody design as the iPhone 17 Pro models, meaning any material change is unlikely before 2027 at the earliest.Tag: Fixed Focus DigitalThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Latest iOS 27 rumor brings hope for an overdue Settings app revamp Macworld
In just a couple of weeks, we’re going to get our first look at iOS 27, and we’re not expecting a ton of new features. Beyond some overdue AI enhancements, iOS 27 is widely rumored to be more of a maintenance release with a focus on performance and stability that fixes some of iOS 26’s annoyances.
According to a new report, one of those fixes will target AirPods settings. According to Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter, Apple plans on giving its AirPods settings a much-needed revamp in iOS 27. While light on details, he says the new settings will be “more functional, better organized, and more streamlined.”
AirPods settings only appear when you connect a pair of AirPods to your iPhone.Foundry
AirPods settings only appear when you connect a pair to your iPhone, with the controls feeling buried. They have become bogged down over the years as Apple has added new features without much reorganization. They’re not totally confusing, but AirPods settings are different than other Apple devices, particularly Apple Watch, and most users probably never use the settings at all, and when they do, it’s likely a short visit.
Gurman says Apple has “heard the feedback” on AirPods settings, and while it doesn’t sound like a standalone app will arrive, the new settings “should mean the earbuds are easier to manage and major feature options are better highlighted,” he writes.
That sounds promising, exactly the kind of thing we hope Apple fixes in iOS 27. AirPods controls are hardly the worst problem with iOS settings, but if Apple is retooling its earbuds settings, that could mean Apple will revamp the entire Settings app. Much like AirPods, Apple’s settings app has become complicated and cluttered over the years, and could use a thoughtful redesign that focuses on what people are looking for and where they expect to find it.
WWDC kicks off on Monday, June 8, with a keynote presentation at 10am ET.

Journey Summit vs Summit Ultra: Which should you buy?
The Journey Summit and Summit Ultra stand out from the crowded 3-in-1 charging market thanks to their adjustable-height magnetic charging pad, compact triangular footprint, integrated ambient night light, and sleek desktop-friendly design. Both chargers neatly power your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods at the same time while taking up minimal desk or bedside-table space.
The key difference is charging speed: the standard Summit offers 15W Qi2 charging, while the Summit Ultra supports the newer Qi2.2 standard for up to 25W wireless charging on iPhone 16 models and later.
Buy the Summit Ultra if…
You own an iPhone 16 or later
Faster wireless charging matters to you
You want a bundled 45W charger included in the box
You live in the US or Australia, where it’s officially sold
Buy the Summit if…
You have an iPhone 12–15 and don’t need 25W charging
You want the same adjustable design for less money
You already own a suitable USB-C wall charger
Skip both if…
You want tilt-angle adjustment as well as height adjustment
You need a highly portable travel charger
You’re shopping on a tighter budget
If you’ve bought fully into the Apple mobile device ecosystem of iPhone, Watch and AirPods, your daily charging routine will be made much easier with a 3-in-1 charging station.
You can forget about multiple cables and chargers—especially useful if your AirPods still use Apple’s Lightning connector—and simultaneously charge all three devices with a single cable.
There are many to choose from—check out our reviews of the best 3-in-1 wireless iPhone chargers. Some are solid and designed for the desk or nightstand; others are more portable and fold away for travel.
One of the best designed desk/nightstand charging stations is the gorgeously upright Journey Nova. Now, the same Australian company has launched the Summit in two versions: the base Summit that charges the iPhone at 15W and the Summit Ultra that boasts Qi2.2 for 25W iPhone charging.
Both feature a striking triangular shape and can elevate the iPhone high off the desk for viewing options, with space for your AirPods case in the alcove underneath with a touch-activated light and feature a flip-out Apple Watch charging module at the back.

Power adapter: 45W included with Summit Ultra (US and AU plugs)

What makes the Summit design stand out?
You can buy a 3-in-1 magnetic wireless charger in all sorts of styles, such as the Anker Cube, and Journey has produced a dramatic geometric arch—or, I suppose, mountain—with the Summit range. While it might resemble a mountain and has welcome solidity, its footprint is small: 5.33 x 3.15 inches (135 x 80mm) and low-profile when closed. If you prefer a more solid block, Anker’s 60mm Cube is dinkier.
The iPhone charging face is covered in an attractive gray fabric. This might be harder to clean than a smooth silicone face, so keep your fingers clean when handling it and maybe keep it out of the kitchen. The Ultra features a raised plastic section, meaning your phone never touches the fabric as it will with the basic Summit.
Simon Jary
The iPhone charging module can be elevated over 2 inches higher using the adjustable slider so you can charge your iPhone while on a video call or watching a movie. While adjustable in height, you can’t angle the iPhone by tilting it.
In the alcove where you can charge your AirPods case there is nightstand-friendly touch-activated light. You simply tap the moon/sun logo to toggle the night light. It’s not a bright light you could read a book by, but it’s an ambient light that will help you locate something nearby.
The base Summit is available in white with a gray fabric face, and the Summit Ultra in black.

How fast do the Summit and Summit Ultra charge?
Charging differences at a glance
Summit: 15W Qi2 wireless charging
Summit Ultra: Up to 25W Qi2.2 wireless charging
25W support: iPhone 16 lineup and later only
Older iPhones: Charge at 15W maximum on either charger
Apple Watch charging: Fast charging supported on both
Wall charger included: Only with Summit Ultra
The Summit Ultra is built on Qi2.2, the latest version of the Qi2 magnetic wireless charging tech that is modelled closely on Apple’s MagSafe. It works with all iPhones after the iPhone 12, but only the iPhone 16 and later support 25W. Older iPhones will charge at 15W using the Summit Ultra.
The non-Ultra Summit uses the earlier Qi2 tech that is limited to 15W wireless charging. It’s still pretty fast but not as speedy as Qi2.2. Find out your iPhone’s magnetic wireless speed in our easy explainer.
An iPhone 16 or later will take around 30 minutes to charge from 0% to 50% at 25W. Reaching the same 50% takes about 45 minutes at 15W.

The Summit Ultra comes with a 45W wall charger (and matching black 60-inch/1.5m cable) and interchangeable plug adapters for the U.S. and Australia. If you live elsewhere and get your hands on an Ultra, it will work with any wall charger over 45W.

Are the Summit and Summit Ultra worth the price?
The 15W Journey Summit is priced at $139.99 / £119.99, and the 25W Summit Ultra at $169.99. At the time of writing, there were launch discounts at the Journey store.
You can certainly buy cheaper 3-in-1 charging stations—see the many iPhone wireless-charging stations here—but you are paying for the aesthetic as much as the power and smooth functionality. The Anker 3-in-1 Cube has an MSRP of $109.99 / £109.99, although it’s often cheaper on Amazon.

The Ultra is only planned for the US and Australian markets presently as it includes wall chargers for those countries only. Of course, you could supply your own wall charger—which is what you’ll need to do with the 15W Summit anyway.

What should you know before buying?
Before choosing either Summit model, there are a few limitations worth noting:
The charging pad adjusts vertically but does not tilt.
The gray fabric surface may attract dirt over time.
The Summit Ultra is officially sold only in the U.S. and Australia.
The standard Summit ships without a wall charger.
Only iPhone 16 models and later support 25W charging on the Ultra.
Should you buy the Journey Summit or Summit Ultra?
The Journey Summit and Summit Ultra are among the most attractive fixed-position 3-in-1 Apple charging stations currently available. Their compact footprint, adjustable-height iPhone mount, hidden Apple Watch charger, and ambient lighting help justify the premium pricing. If you own an iPhone 16 – or plan to upgrade soon – the Summit Ultra is the obvious choice thanks to its significantly faster 25W wireless charging and included wall charger.
If you use an older iPhone, the standard Summit delivers essentially the same experience for less money, provided you already own a suitable USB-C wall adapter.

iPhone 18 Pro Launching Later This Year With These 10 New Features While the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are not launching until September, there are already plenty of rumors about the devices.
It was initially reported that the iPhone 18 Pro models would have fully under-screen Face ID, with only a front camera visible in the top-left corner of the screen. However, the latest rumors indicate that only one Face ID component will be moved under the screen on the devices, which will result in merely a smaller Dynamic Island.
Below, we have recapped 10 features rumored for the iPhone 18 Pro models, as of May 2026:Dark Cherry: The special color for the iPhone 18 Pro models will reportedly be Dark Cherry, alongside Light Blue, Dark Gray, and Silver. The existing Cosmic Orange and Deep Blue colors are expected to be discontinued.
Smaller Dynamic Island: It has been rumored that Face ID's flood illuminator will be moved under the screen on the iPhone 18 Pro models, paving the way for a smaller Dynamic Island on the devices.
LTPO+ Displays: The next Pro models are expected to have the same overall design as the iPhone 17 Pro models, including 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes and a "plateau" housing three rear cameras. However, the displays will reportedly use so-called LTPO+ display technology, which should contribute to longer battery life.
Variable Aperture: The main 48-megapixel Fusion camera on both iPhone 18 Pro models is rumored to have a variable aperture, which would allow users to control the amount of light that passes through the camera's lens and reaches the sensor. This would provide greater control over depth of field. However, given that iPhones have smaller image sensors due to smartphone size constraints, it is unclear exactly how meaningful this improvement would be.
A20 Pro Chip: Apple's next-generation A20 Pro chip is expected to use TSMC's first-generation 2nm process, whereas the A19 Pro chip is 3nm. With a 2nm architecture and a new packaging design, the A20 Pro chip should deliver solid year-over-year performance and power efficiency gains.
C2 Modem: Apple's custom C1 cellular modem for 5G and LTE debuted in the iPhone 16e last year, and that was followed by a C1X chip in the iPhone Air. Apple says the C1X modem is up to twice as fast as the C1 modem, and the most power-efficient modem in an iPhone ever. The improvements should continue with Apple's third-generation C2 modem in the iPhone 18 Pro models.
5G via Satellite: With the C2 modem, the iPhone 18 Pro models will reportedly support 5G via satellite for web browsing without Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity.
N2 Chip: Most of the iPhone 17 models and the iPhone Air are equipped with an Apple-designed N1 chip that enables Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. Apple says the N1 chip also improves the overall performance and reliability of features like Personal Hotspot and AirDrop. iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to have Apple's next-generation N2 chip, but it is not yet known what improvements would come with this upgrade.
Simplified Camera Control: Apple is expected to simplify the Camera Control button on the iPhone 18 Pro models, by removing touch sensitivity and haptic feedback. The redesigned button will only have pressure sensitivity.
Redesigned Rear Ceramic Shield: The rear Ceramic Shield area for MagSafe is rumored to feature a more frosted and seamless appearance on the iPhone 18 Pro models compared to the current two-tone design.Apple is expected to release the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and a foldable iPhone in September, followed by a standard iPhone 18 model, a lower-end iPhone 18e, and a second-generation iPhone Air early next year.Related Roundup: iPhone 18 ProThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Cable clutter on your nightstand or desk is a massive annoyance that can be easily fixed. Anker’s Prime 3-in-1 charging station is definitely one of the most elegant solutions, and today it’s on sale for $150, down 35 percent from its MSRP, the best we’ve seen for this model.
This charging station was built to simultaneously charge your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods while keeping everything neat and tidy. The 25W Qi2.2 wireless charging magnetic pad is fast enough to get an iPhone 17 Pro to 50 percent battery in just 22 minutes. Then, there’s another lifted wireless pad for the Apple Watch, efficiently getting things off your desk. The base plate is actually another wireless charging pad where you can place your AirPods case. On the base is where you’ll also find a smart display that makes it possible to swipe between charging modes — Boost, Ice, and Sleep—as well as get info about charging status for your devices.
Don’t worry, you won’t need any other extra devices to make this thing work because it comes with its own 65W USB-C power adapter and cable. For $150, this Anker 3-in-1 charging station is an absolute catch, so order one before the deal runs out.

Foldable iPhone Reportedly Facing Mass Production Issues Apple's first foldable iPhone is running into mass production yield problems at the pre-assembly stage, the leaker known as "Fixed Focus Digital" claims.
In a post today on Weibo, Fixed Focus Digital said Apple's troubles are not related to hinge reliability, as was previously reported, but rather due to surface-mount technology (SMT) during pre-assembly, with production yields failing to ramp up. The leaker framed the situation as somewhat concerning, stopping short of suggesting the fall launch is at risk.
The update arrives days after a separate leaker known as "Instant Digital" reported that the device's hinge was consistently failing to meet Apple's quality control standards under conditions of prolonged, high-frequency opening and closing. Instant Digital described that issue as one that "must be resolved with absolute perfection," though a follow-up post suggested the hinge difficulties were unlikely to affect the expected release window.
DigiTimes reported in April that production was already running roughly one to two months behind schedule, while still maintaining that a fall 2026 launch remained on track, with mass production planned to begin in July. Fixed Focus Digital reported in April that price negotiations with Apple's assembly partner were a potentially disruptive factor.
Whatever the precise nature of the problems, the picture that has emerged across multiple supply chain sources in recent weeks is one of unusual production difficulties. That said, a fall launch does not appear to be at risk; Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported in April that the foldable iPhone remains on track for a September debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models, and that Apple is aiming to put it on sale at roughly the same time or slightly later. Gurman noted at the time, however, that "the release is six months away and production has yet to ramp up" and "the timing isn't final."
The foldable iPhone is expected to feature a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch cover display, the A20 chip and C2 modem, a Touch ID power button instead of Face ID, and two rear cameras, with pricing rumored at around $2,000.Tags: Fixed Focus Digital, Foldable iPhoneThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums
