Check Point Software Announces Industry’s First IP Address Management
Solution for Linux

New Linux Product Furthers Integration with Complete, Scalable,
Enterprise-wide VPN

SINGAPORE – Wednesday, June 16, 1999 – Check Point Software
Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHKP), the worldwide leader in secure
enterprise networking, today announced Check Point Meta IP Services
for Linux, the industry’s first IP address management solution
available for the popular Linux operating system. With Meta IP
Services for Linux, network administrators now can run Meta IP’s
powerful DNS and DHCP services natively on Linux servers. Meta IP
integrates with FireWall-1 and VPN-1 Gateway from Check Point
Software, seamlessly providing them with user information. Meta IP
enables administrators to easily manage the IP address and name space
for complex, global networks and provides the foundation for
user-based security and policy management through Check Point’s Meta
IP User-to-Address Mapping (UAM) technology. Meta IP’s DNS and DHCP
services are also available for Unix and Windows NT environments.

“Today many large enterprises are deploying IP services on the Linux
platform,” said Asheem Chandna, vice president of marketing and
business development for Check Point Software Technologies. “With the
availability of Meta IP Services for Linux our customers can now
centrally manage IP services that are distributed and deployed across
all the major Unix platforms and Windows NT.”

More than 10 million users currently run the Linux operating system,
which according to IDC, was the fastest-growing server operating
environment in 1998. Linux accounts for more than 17 percent of all
server operating system being shipped today. In Asia Pacific,
although larger enterprises have not adopted Linux en masse, smaller
organizations have been receptive to Linux adoption. At the same
time, sporadic adoption of Linux amongst workgroups within larger
enterprises are also happening. The cost effectiveness and extensive
feature sets of Meta IP Services for Linux makes a compelling tool
for managing IP address and name space complexity affecting Asian
companies.

“With the availability of Meta IP’s Services for Linux, network
administrators can now take advantage of the scalability and
reliability of the Linux platform to host multiple DNS and DHCP
services in enterprise environments,” says Paul McNamara, vice
president, business development at Red Hat Software. “The increasing
availability of powerful enterprise-ready solutions such as Check
Point Software’s Meta IP Address Management software furthers the
attractiveness of Linux to the enterprise.”

Pricing and Availability
For registered Meta IP 4.1 users, Meta IP Services for Linux is
available today as a free upgrade through Check Point Software’s Meta
IP site at http://www.metaip.checkpoint.com. For new users, Meta IP
4.1 is available in both Standard and Enterprise editions. The
Enterprise edition starts at US$9,995 (U.S. only) with 1,000 nodes
(which equates about US$10 per node only). Additional nodes are
available with per node pricing discounted at higher quantities. The
Meta IP 4.1 Standard Edition, which now includes the UAM technology
and two DNS and two DHCP services, is priced at US$445 for a 100-node
license (which works out to US$4.45 per node only). Meta IP can be
purchased through qualified resellers and distributors in the Check
Point Partner Alliance – for a complete listing of resellers and
partners worldwide, please visit http://www.checkpoint.com.

About the Meta IP Solution
Meta IP is a standardized, cross platform solution for managing IP
addressing and naming across both single-site and large, multi-site
networks. The Meta IP product includes an enterprise management
service (Meta IP Administration Console), standards-based IP network
services (BIND-compatible Dynamic DNS, RFC-compliant and
fault-tolerant DHCP, and RFC-compliant RADIUS), and an open and
distributed LDAP data store. With its standards-based architecture,
Meta IP frees network administrators from proprietary services that
limit their ability to manage DNS and DHCP services in cross-platform
environments. While Meta IP’s Administration Console module currently
runs only on Windows NT, it will be ported to Unix-based platforms in
the future.

Another advantage of Meta IP is its unique User-to-Address Mapping
technology, which when used in conjunction with Check Point VPN-1
and FireWall-1 , enables transparent and automatic implementation of
user-based security policies in networks with dynamically assigned IP
addresses. The UAM technology automatically and transparently maps a
user’s login name, login time, IP address, and physical or Media
Access Control (MAC) address to an employee name, allowing
administrators to match the name to an IP address in a dynamic
environment.
