Quirky unveils Cloak, an iPad case with a built-in stand

Quirky (http://www.quirky.com) has unveiled Cloak, an US$36, community-developed protective case for the iPad. It’s constructed from non-slip rubber with plastic hinge mechanisms to enable viewing at different angles.

The iPad slides into the Cloak through a top opening and is held in place by a sturdy friction grip. Once in place, it can be positioned to sit on a flat surface in portrait mode by folding the Cloak’s front cover behind the iPad and using the plastic support brace located on the product’s inside cover to prop up the iPad screen vertically.

GameSpy updates suite of iPhone development tools

GameSpy Technology, a provider of online gaming services, has announced updates to their suite of tools for developers of iPhone games, including an entirely new customizable user-interface (UI) toolkit and new services such as in-app purchases and push notifications.

Developers can either implement the new UI as is, change the appearance to match their game/brand or use the provided APIs (application programming interfaces) to include GameSpy’s services into their existing game UI. The GameSpy API is common across all gaming platforms.

Apple wins design patents for iPod shuffle, MacBook Air

Apple has won three design patents from the US Patent & Trademark Office. They involve a power supply, the iPod shuffle and the MacBook Air

Patent number D11,415 is for the ornamental design of a power supply. Patent number D611,470 is for the ornamental design of an electronic device (the Apple remote). Patent number D611,469 is for the ornamental design of another electronic device (the MacBook Air).
