Attorneys for Proview, a Chinese company, claim that progress is being made in the company’s ongoing trademark dispute with Apple over the iPad name.

Xie Xianghui, an attorney that represents Proview in the city of Shenzhen, told China’s “Xinhua” (http://macte.ch/jpkaL) — as reported by “AppleInsider” (http://www.appleinsider.com) — that the two sides have discussed a compensation package. Apple is even said to have gone as far as proposing a settlement sum that it believes would be fair.

Proview says it owns the rights to the “iPad” name in China; Apple, as you might expect, disagrees. In February Proview filed a lawsuit in Santa Clara County (California) that brought the legal dispute to Silicon Valley. With that move, the brouhaha went international.
