Elgato (http://www.elgato.com) has announces the Elgato Thunderbolt SSD, a portable high-speed storage solution that combines a solid-state drive with Thunderbolt technology.

Housed in a metal enclosure, the high-speed drive draws its power directly through the Thunderbolt port without needing a separate power supply. The Elgato Thunderbolt SSD will be available in February for US$429.95 (120GB) and $699.95 (240GB).

Unlike traditional portable hard drives, the design of the Elgato Thunderbolt SSD contains no moving parts, so it’s more resilient to rough handling, and less prone to faults, according to the folks at Elgato. The metal enclosure doesn’t just look great; it also ensures optimal heat dissipation, they add. As this design doesn’t need a noisy fan, it operates silently.
