In a note to clients — as reported by “AppleInsider” (http://www.appleinsider.com) — Sterne Agree analyst Shaw Wu says holiday Mac and iPhone sales are ahead of expectations, though iPad sales a little “light.”

The analyst says indications from Apple’s supply chain have led him to raise his projected Mac sales from 5 million to 5.2 million. Wu says the MacBook Air in particular is a big seller.

Wu says his checks within the company’s global supply chain found that iPhone momentum has been strong across the board, with strong sales of the iPhone 4S, as well as the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. He’s raised his forecast for iPhone sales for Apple’s current quarter from 26 million to 28 million.

On the slightly downside, Wu says iPad shipments seem to be “a little light” in the current quarter; he’s reduced projected sales from 15 million to 13.5 million. Why? Wu says the Kindle Fire is proving a serious iPad competitor and also because some consumers are choosing a more full-featured MacBook Air.
