Wingnut is offering a free public beta test version of Lo-Fi, a retro photo effect application for Mac and Windows systems. It gives pictures the “funky look” of low end, toy cameras.

You can download Lo-Fi from http://www.lofiapp.com . It turns digital photos into retro handmade snapshots. You can mix a wide range of effects from the film world, such as grain, colorful cross processing, lens blur, light leaks, and frames. All these happy accidents of film photography combine to give each photo its own quirky personality, says Terence Tay, one of the creators of Lo-Fi.

It looks and behaves like a gizmo you are holding and playing with, he adds. Lo-Fi will sell for US$29 and run on Mac OS X 10.5 or higher.
