The iPhone and iPad generated US$15 billion of revenue for Apple last quarter. In addition, the iPod touch generated about $2.3 billion, implying that iOS based devices were responsible for sales of $17.3 billion — or 65% of Apple’s revenue, says the asymco research group (http://macte.ch/J7SsG).

Mac OS X powered hardware generated 20% of sales. The sale of Mac OS X software (both the operating system and applications for it) accounted for another $786 million or 3% of total. In addition, asymco suggests the proportion of sales due to apps in the Apple App Store is nearly half, or another $600 million (a bit more than 2%).
