Apple releases iOS 4

Apple has released iOS 4 — the latest version of the operating system formerly known as the iPhone OS — for the iPhone and iPod touch. It’s available for download from iTunes for iPhone 3GS and 3G users, as well as by second- and third-generation iPod touch users. The new OS will also be included with the iPhone 4.

Apple to open five new stores in Canada

According to “iPhoneinCanada” (http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/main-page/apple-to-open-five-new-stores-in-canada/) this summer and fall Apple will be opening five new Canadian stores in the following cities:
° Quebec: Quebec City (one location);

° British Columbia: Richmond Centre (Richmond; one location);

° Ontario: Upper Canada Mall (Toronto; one location);

° Alberta: Chinook Centre and Southgate (Calgary/Edmonton; two locations).

The Southgate Apple Store location has already opened (on May 28). Currently, Apple has 15 retails stores in Canada.

Some iPhone 4 orders shipping

Apple has notified customers who were among the first to pre-order an iPhone 4 that they can expect to receive the device by June 24, which is the official on-sale date for iPhone 4 in the U.S., reports “InformationWeek” (http://macosg.me/2/es).

The company sent out official Shipment Notification e-mails, along with Federal Express tracking information, to those customers over the weekend. Fed Ex tracking documents show that the devices are being shipped directly from a facility in Lantau Island, Hong Kong.

LinkOptimizer update allows monochrome processing

Zevrix Solutions (http://www.zevrix.com) has released LinkOptimizer 4.4, an update of its workflow automation solution for Adobe InDesign. The new version lets users process monochrome black-and-white images (bitmap mode in Photoshop). The target effective resolution for such images is set separately.

LinkOptimizer lets you reduce InDesign job size and speed up processing by eliminating excess image data and performing essential image adjustments.
