Intel CEO: Jobs happy with our purchase of Infineon wireless division

Intel CEO Paul Otellini says he checked the opinion of Apple CEO Steve Jobs before buying German chipmaker Infineon Technologies’ wireless unit for US$7.7 billion, reports “ChannelNews” (http://www.channelnews.com.au/Networking_And_Wireless/Industry/D8Q2K5R6).

“Steve was very happy,” Otellini told Fox Business TV. “The industry was abuzz that this business unit was on the market, and there were a number of competing companies for it. I think they are very happy that Intel won the bid.”

Apple to hold special event today

Apple to hold special event today

Apple has sent out invitations to the press for a special event to be held on Wednesday, Sept. 1. It’s been widely rumored that the event would focus on a revamped Apple TV. However, the invitation shows a guitar with an Apple logo/cut-out indicating that the event will focus on music instead. Or perhaps in addition to Apple TV Take Three.

The event will be held at 1 pm (Pacific) at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco. Doubtless, new iPods will be introduced. Beyond that, it’s anyone’s guess. “MacNews” will, of course, be covering the event.

What I’m expecting at today’s Apple event

Apple will hold a special event today at 1 pm (Pacific) and speculation has been rampant about what will be announced. I’ve read pretty much all the predictions, mulled ’em over and decided this is what we’ll see — and won’t see.

We will see:

° A new iPod touch with a front-facing camera, higher rez display and support for FaceTime;
