PadDock 10 is stereo sound system for the iPad

SMK-Link Electronics Corp. has released the PadDock 10 (http://www.pdstand.com/), an US$99.99 stand/stereo sound system for the Apple tablet.

It cradles the iPad securely, keeping it safe and available for continuous desktop or countertop use. Charging the iPad while cradled, PadDock allows the user to tilt or rotate the iPad 360-degrees, supporting apps in any screen orientation. PadDock also eases syncing of iPad content with iTunes without swapping cables.

Sam’s Club to sell iPhones, iPads

Wal-Mart’s warehouse unit Sam’s Club will begin selling the iPhone and iPad, reports the “Associated Press” (http://www.kgw.com/news/business/104860964.html).

The world’s largest retailer said at an investor meeting in Wednesday it’s expanding Sam’s Club electronics and jewelry sections and will carry the Apple smartphone and tablet. The announcement comes a day after Wal-Mart said it will sell the iPad at 2,300 Walmart stores in the U.S. by mid-November.

Boinx Software (http://www.boinx.com) has released version 3.6 of FotoMagico, the slideshow creation tool for Mac OS X. The upgrade adds MediaBrowser 2 integration and updated Flickr support.

The new iMediaBrowser 2 framework and interface sports expanded media libraries support for media browsing and locating capabilities, as well as added support for Flickr browsing directly within the application. A new “Linked to Slides” audio option provides users with the ability to link audio and soundtrack to specific slides, or allows it to move throughout the entire show.

Absoft Pro Fortran 11.10 advances HPC code development

Absoft Corp. (http://www.absoft.com) has announced general availability of the new Absoft Pro Fortran 11.1 for Mac OS X. The new version advances parallel code development, analysis and performance on the Mac and is compatible with Mac OS X 10.6.x (“Snow Leopard”) and Xcode 3.2.

Absoft considers version 11.1 a major release as it includes several new features that simplify development of extremely fast code for parallel systems, says President Wood Lotz. The new version expands the Fortran suite with additional performance tools for multi-cores.

Apple plans ‘Back to the Mac’ event

Some folks would say it’s about time, but Apple has announced a “Back to the Mac” media event at 10 am on Wednesday, Oct. 20.

Naturally, there are no details. In its invitation to the press, Apple only says that invitees can see what’s new for the Mac and that it will preview the next version of Mac OS X. Let the speculation begin….
