Say goodbye to Xserve

Apple will discontinue its Xserve rack-mount server in January. Why? “Since its introduction in the fall of 2009, Mac mini with Snow Leopard Server has become Apple’s most popular server system,” the company says.

Apicorn introduces 750GB Aegis Padlock Drive

The Apricorn Aegis Padlock drive is now available in 750GB, 500GB, and 250GB capacities. It uses a physical numeric keypad instead of a biometric reader or software to give you access to the drive’s storage.

The benefits of the keypad are that you can use the drive on any computer, plus you can share the drive with a group via the PIN number. You can also set the drive with guest PINs for flexibility, though this requires an installable utility.
