Blu-Ray still (slowly) gaining ground

It appears that the pundits who predicted that Blu-ray would never make it are wrong. It’s been an uphill battle—especially once the economy bottomed out—but the next gen optical technology continues to gain ground, if slowly.

Overall, worldwide DVD and Blu-ray player and recorder unit shipments declined to 137 million units in 2008. The In-Stat research group expects a modest increase in 2009, with a more healthy increase in 2010, spurred by high volume shipments of Blu-ray players.

Comcast posts video about its iPhone/iPod touch app

Comcast offers a free Comcast Mobile app for iPhone/iPod touch devices. It offers access to your Comcast services and version 2.0 includes remote DVR functionality, as well as other new features.

Analysts expect big iPad sales

Pre-orders for the iPad start Friday, March 12, and at least two analysts are predicting the new device will fly off the shelves.

“I expect a surge going out the door,” Ezra Gottheil of Technology Business Research told “Computerworld” (http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9166958/Apple_s_iPad_Will_it_sell_?source=rss_news). “There’s a group of Apple advocates that will queue up no matter what. Apple has the most effective branding in the industry, and these people think of themselves as acolytes, they do think of themselves as the ‘Mac’ in Apple’s ‘I’m a Mac’ ads.”

Steve Jobs: iPad won’t tether to the iPhone

According to “9to5Mac” (http://www.9to5mac.com/jobs-swedish-iphone-43609634) Apple CEO Steve Jobs emailed an Apple fan to tell him that you won’t be able to tether the upcoming iPad to the iPhone.

The article says that “Jezper from Sweden” has asked, “Will the wifi-only version somehow support tethering thru my iPhone?”

And Jobs reportedly sent this short reply: “No. Sent from my iPhone.”
