SmartSound Software today announced that the latest update to its award-winning SmartSound Sonicfire Pro 4 software includes Universal Binary support on the Mac platform. Sonicfire Pro 4.1.1 runs natively on the new Intel-based Macs to deliver a fast music scoring solution to Avid and Final Cut Pro video editors. Additional features available in the update include increased audio/video synchronization, the ability to sort between Single-Track and Multi-Layer tracks in the Maestro, and other minor bug fixes.

Survey: ‘iPods More Popular Than Beer’

A report from The Associated Press notes that the latest biannual market research study by Ridgewood, NJ-based Student Monitor of undergraduate college students in the US found that Apple’s iPod has surpassed beer drinking as the most “in” thing. “Nearly three quarters, or 73 percent, of 1,200 students surveyed said iPods were ‘in’ — more than any other item in a list that also included text messaging, bar hopping and downloading music.
