Aspyr Media announces ‘The Gamehood’

Aspyr Media has announced the development of a new game application “The Gamerhood,’ that will allow a user to purchase and download a game directly to their Macintosh using a standard Internet connection. A wide range of Mac games, from very casual titles to some of Aspyr’s AAA titles, will be made available through The Gamerhood. Over the next few months, Aspyr will release more specific information on The Gamerhood’s capabilities and a list of titles, which will be immediately available upon the application’s launch.

New FileMaker Pro 8.5 features live Web data on demand

FileMaker today announced the availability of FileMaker Pro 8.5, the first desktop database to provide built-in integration with live Web data, notes the company. “As easy as it is to bookmark a Web page, a live Web page can now be added to a record in a database using the new Web Viewer Control in FileMaker Pro 8.5. Data in specified record fields, such as customer’s address or product name, will drive the URL in the Web Viewer. Set it up once and there will be a live Web link for every record in the database.

EarthDesk 3.5.3 released with portrait display support

Xeric Design today announced the availability of EarthDesk 3.5.3, the latest version of the real-time dynamic desktop map for Macintosh Intel and PowerPC systems. EarthDesk displays city lights, hurricanes and worldwide weather systems on your desktop. Version 3.5.3 adds support for portrait (vertical) displays and fixes several minor bugs. ‘Fake Leopard Screenshot Contest’ announced

Mac developer Phill Ryu today announced the “Fake Leopard Screenshot Contest.” Eighteen Mac OS X developers have joined in the affair, and nearly US$900 in prizes are available. An excited Gedeon Maheux, head of the Iconfactory, recounted, “When Phil first told us about his contest idea, all of the factory workers reacted with “That’s plain cool!”.
