Mark/Space offers Palm, Windows Mobile software

Mark/Space, maker of the Missing Sync software family, is now selling the top third-party applications for Palm OS and Windows Mobile/Pocket PC handheld devices in their online store. “Mac users now have a place to shop for handheld software applications where they aren’t forced to wade through a sea of products that don’t support the Mac,” said Eric Ullman, Mark/Space’s director of sales and marketing.

Apple cuts the cord on FireWire

CNET News.com takes a look at Apple’s decision to move the iPod line from FireWire to USB 2.0. “FireWire is still Apple Computer’s baby, but the proud parent is cutting the cord. With the latest crop of iPods, Apple is no longer including a FireWire cable in the box. The music players will still work with FireWire, if a cord is purchased separately, but only a USB 2.0 cable comes with the device.

Apple enjoys 40 percent profit margin on iPod shuffle

Analysts at IDC recently found that Apple makes a healthy 35 percent to 40 percent profit on each iPod shuffle sold, and will make even more from expected drops in flash memory pricing. “The iPod shuffle’s flash memory, which was supplied by Samsung in the model examined by IDC, is estimated to be the most expensive component used in the player by far, says IdaRose Sylvester, a senior semiconductor research analyst at IDC.
