Impression 2.7 backup utility released

The Babel Company has released Impression 2.7, a significant update to the backup application for Mac OS X. This revision provides a completely reworked UI utilizing Apple’s “Aluminum” look, the ability to disable file segmentation, auto-burn for unattended backups, along with a long list of other requested features and performance increases. Impression costs US$25 to register, but will be increasing to $50 on April 1, 2005. A free trial version is also available.

Google Maps gets Safari, Opera support

Google Maps, a new online mapping service from the search engine giant, has now added support for the Safari and Opera Web browsers. The innovative Google Maps “allows users in the U.S. to find location information, navigate through maps, and get directions quickly and easily.” Google Maps features draggable maps, integrated Local search results, turn-by-turn directions, and keyboard shortcuts.

Traktor DJ Studio 2.6 adds Web broadcasting, more

Native Instruments today announced Traktor DJ Studio 2.6, an update to its professional DJ software. Version 2.6 adds full compatibility with the latest version of Stanton’s vinyl-controlled DJ system, FinalScratch 2. Traktor DJ Studio 2.6 offers several other new features such as live broadcasting via Internet, live audio input with on-the-fly audio recording, extended file format support and more. Traktor DJ Studio 2.6 will be available in mid-March for US$229.

Mozilla, Safari global usage share increases

OneStat.com reports that the global usage share of Mozilla’s Web browsers has increased more than 1 percent to 8.45 percent since November. According to the Web researcher, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer is down 1.62 percent to 87.28 percent. Meanwhile, usage of Apple’s Safari Web browser has climbed from 0.3 percent to 1.21 percent since November.
