Sony hires former Apple executive

Sony Corporation of America today announced that Tim Schaaff has been appointed to the newly-created position of Senior Vice President of Software Development, effective immediately. Schaaff reports to Keiji Kimura, EVP and Officer in Charge of Technology Strategy of Sony Corporation. He joins Sony from Apple Computer, where he held various positions including VP of Interactive Media.

Cinematize 2.05 offers direct output for iPod and more

Miraizon today announced the release of Cinematize 2.05, the latest version of the company’s software package that extracts audio and video clips from a DVD movie and saves them in a format compatible with standard multimedia editing software such as QuickTime, iMovie, and Final Cut. Version 2.05 offers the ability to generate movie files for iPod video and Playstation Portable (PSP) units, as well as for sharing on the Web.

Apple releases Aperture 1.0.1 Update

Apple has released Aperture 1.0.1 Update via its Software Update utility and on the Web. Apple says this update “addresses a number of issues related to reliability and performance. It also delivers improved image export quality and metadata handling.” Specifically, version 1.0.1 addresses: white balance adjustment accuracy and performance; image export quality; book and print ordering reliability; auto-stacking performance; and custom paper size handling.
