Verbatim announces inkjet-printable DVD media

Verbatim today announced white inkjet-printable DVD+R Double-Layer (DL)-certified media for 2.4X to 6X DL drives. Packaged in 20-disc spindles, the new 8.5GB/240-minute discs feature a inkjet-printable surface that provides “remarkable ink absorption and excellent drying properties,” notes the company. Verbatim high-speed, white inkjet-printable DVD+R DL media is available now for a suggested street price of US$169 for a 20-disc spindle.

Mathematica 5.2 offers 64-bit technology

Wolfram Research today announced Mathematica 5.2, the 64-bit multicore release and the latest version of the company’s science and technology software system. Version 5.2 brings 64-bit technology to all supported platforms. Consequently, more than 4.3GB of memory (the 32-bit address limit) can now be addressed, and high-precision or large numbers are processed in 64-bit rather than 32-bit digit chunks for faster computation.

Vertus to release Fluid Mask Photoshop plug-in

Vertus this week will release Fluid Mask, a Photoshop plug-in tool that allows users to quickly and accurately cut out objects from images. “When an image is loaded, Fluid Mask’s engine analyses the distribution of colors, finding the natural groups according to the content of the image. Together with information calculated about edges, gradients and texture a model is constructed which divides the images into regions.” The tool is aimed at graphic artists within design agencies, catalogue houses and publishing houses who regularly cut-out images.
