Atlanta, GA – July 8, 2005 – Big Nerd Ranch Announces August 22-26, 2005
Cocoa Bootcamp Featuring New Core Data Coverage

Big Nerd Ranch, Inc., a leading provider of intensive training classes for
Mac developers, announces the dates for Cocoa Bootcamp, highlighting key
features in the Tiger version of Mac OS X (10.4). The Panther version
brought special attention to the use of bindings. This key feature
facilitated the synchronization between the data model and the
application’s user interface and streamlined coding. Tiger takes this idea
one step further with the introduction of Core Data, Tiger’s data modeling
enhancement. Core Data simplifies the process of generating a data model
for the application and has built-in functionality for undo, redo, and data
persistence. Big Nerd Ranch has incorporated this exciting new feature into
its curriculum.

In addition to bindings and Core Data, Cocoa Bootcamp covers the
fundamental principles of programming in Cocoa. After an initial 2 hour
overview of Objective-C, students move on to controls, helper objects,
undo/redo functions, archiving, Nib files, user defaults and notifications.
With the first lesson, students begin writing code, utilizing lessons as
they’re covered and building upon principles as they’re mastered. By the
end of the class, the student will demonstrate mastery of higher level
topics such as OpenGL, attaching sheets, categories and creation and
management of classes, frameworks, view swapping, and Tiger’s XCode 2.1.

“Every time I ask myself how the engineers at Apple could possibly make
life easier for Cocoa developers, they surprise me with another
innovation,” commented Cocoa Bootcamp instructor, Aaron Hillegass. “The
excitement generated by the release of bindings was impressive enough.
However, Core Data is an unbelievably useful tool for Cocoa Developers in
managing their data modeling and application development. It’s the third
piece of the trifecta that includes Interface Builder and bindings.”

Hillegass’s book, “Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X,” serves as the course
textbook. Aaron’s skills as an engaging and versatile instructor are
perfectly matched to the task of guiding students through the ins and outs
of the complex and sometimes overwhelming layers of Cocoa development. The
bootcamp is an intensive five day class that covers an exhaustive and
comprehensive amount of material in a very short time, however, students
emerge from the class ready to utilize their newly found mastery in Cocoa
