Gefen unveils HDTV-related solutions

Gefen will be spotlighting its new HDTV connectivity solutions this week at Macworld Expo. The two new HDTV Switchers –- available for US$249 and $349 — are designed to streamline operations behind the scenes by linking one HD display or projector to up to four HDTV sources. The HD display can then access any source at the touch of a button. It can function as a computer display, video player or television depending on the source (satellite set top boxes, DVD players and computers with DVI ports).

iTalk iPod voice recorder coming in April

Griffin Technology has posted details on the iTalk, a new voice recorder for Apple’s iPod. The add-on device plugs into the top of an iPod and can record “seminars, meetings, classes, notes in your car, songs, or whatever you want” up to 100 feet away. You can also connect an external microphone directly to iTalk for more recording options. Griffin says the device can play back recordings through its integrated speaker or through headphones.

Now Up-to-Date & Contact to get major overhaul

Now Software will release version 5.0 of Now Up-to-Date & Contact late in the third quarter or early in the fourth quarter of the year. The update of the cross-platform application will be Mac first and will be only for Mac OS X (support for Mac OS 9.x will be dropped). Version 5.0 will add a new unified integration and e-mail integration. It will be the “largest single update the product has ever seen,” Randal Murray, Now Software’s director of technology, told MacMinute.

Belkin has announced the TuneCast II FM transmitter for Apple’s iPod and other portable players. The new device scans all FM frequencies 88.1-107.9MHz and selects the best available frequency. The TuneCast II comes in two models: a white version and a gray version. The gray version (US$49.99) ships with a Belkin Mobile Power Cord that connects to your car’s cigarette lighter to provide extended power while on the road.
