HP unveils iPod-based ‘HP Digital Music Player’

Carly Fiorina, Hewlett-Packard’s chairman and chief executive officer, has unveiled the new iPod-based HP device at the 2004 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The “HP Digital Music Player” that was shown is light blue in color, sports an “HP” logo on the back, and is “the first and only one,” according to Fiorina.

Jobs on hand-held video players

The New York Times’ David Pogue sat in on an interview (not yet published) this week with Steve Jobs in which the Apple CEO gave his thoughts on hand-held video players. Jobs offered several good reasons why he doubted video players would ever approach the success of audio players such as the iPod. Although, in typical Jobs fashion, he said: “Now, I’m not saying we’re not working on something like that. Who knows what we’ve got in our labs?”

Apple senior IT director Dean Rally on Thursday disclosed some interesting information on how Apple runs its own business on a great deal of Apple machines. “Rally said Xserve is the mainstay of Apple’s corporate data center, with the rack-mounted server being used to deliver Web pages, files and applications, as well as for authentication and security,” reports CNET News.com.
