Apple U.S. market share declines year over year

Apple captured 3.2 percent of the U.S. market share in 2003, down from 3.5 percent a year ago, according to research firm IDC. The company shipped 1.675 million Macs in 2003, compared with 1.679 units in 2002. Apple’s worldwide market share remained under 2 percent in 2003. The companies ahead of Apple were: Dell (16.319 million – 30.9%), HP (10.851 million – 20.6%), IBM (2.748 million – 5.2% ), and Gateway (1.987 million – 3.8%).

Ellison weds novelist; Jobs takes wedding photos

Oracle CEO Larry Ellison married his fiancee of eight years, romance novelist Melanie Craft, over the winter holidays, the couple said Tuesday. They married on December 18 at Ellison’s 45-acre Japanese-style compound in Woodside. The ceremony was attended by Ellison’s best friend, Apple CEO Steve Jobs, and his wife, Laurene. Jobs did double duty as the official wedding photographer.

Navicat 5.0 offers improvements

PremiumSoft has released Navicat 5.0, the latest release of the company’s MySQL client for Mac OS X. Version 5.0 includes Visual Query Builder, a View Table Structure function, bug fixes for file imports, and interface improvements. Navicat 5.0 requires Mac OS X 10.1 or later and is priced at US$95 for the downloadable version and $75 educational pricing.

Apple has released Soundtrack 1.2, an updated version of its royalty-free music production tool. Improvements in version 1.2 include MTC and MIDI beat clock synchronization, user customizable effect presets, improved support for large audio files, document compression, general media manager enhancements, and more. Soundtrack 1.2 requires Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later.
